O the only wife God our Saviour, be Glory and Majefty, Dominion and Power, both now and ever. Amen. Jude 25. To whom, O my God, fhould we give the Glory of our Salvation but to Thee, to whom we owe it entirely? To whom fhould we confecrate our Hearts, but to Him who redeems them by His Blood, fanctifies them by His Spirit, and renders them happy by His Glory? Reign in them, Lord, now here below by thy Love, that Thou mayeft one Day reign in them with Glory, Majefty, and Dominion in Heaven.

He will prefent our Souls,
Unblemish'd and compleat,
Before the Glory of his Face,
With Joys divinely great.

Then all the chofen Seed

Shall meet around the Throne, Shall blefs the Conduct of his Grace, And make its Wonders known.

ΑΝΙ

ND we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an Understanding that we may know him that is true: and we are in Him that is true, even in his Son Jefus Chrift. This is the true God, and eternal Life, 1 John v. 20.

The Incarnation of the Son of God is a capital Truth, the first of Christianity, and the Spring of all the other Graces. - Jefus Chrift is the Pattern, who brought the Knowledge and the Love of the true God down upon the Earth; and he alone alfo can convey them into the Heart. He alone was the Son of God, but he was unwilling to continue fo alone; he makes us his Members, in order to make us in Him Children and Heirs of God. Let the Remembrance of fo inconceivable a Favour, penetrate our Hearts with an eternal Gratitude, and engage us in the Service of God, without referve, and at the Expence of all Things."

JESUS, mine Advocate above,

Let me not hear of Thee alone, But make the Wonders of thy Love, By deep Experience fweetly known.

On Thee my Soul would fix its Eye,

My lips would tafte thy heav'nly Grace Then would I raise thine Honour high, And teach a thousand tongues thy praife.

HE

E that hath the Son, hath Life, and he that hath not the Son of God, hath not Life, John v. 12.

Lord, who is able to comprehend in how many different Manners Thou art my Life? Thou art fo as God, fince my Life is thy Work, and that I live in Thee: Thou art fo as God-Man, fince thou redeemeft it by thy Blood, formeft it by thy Spirit, preferveft it by thy Grace, and feedeft me with thy Love below, till Thou caufe me to live fully and perfectly of thy glorified Life in Heaven. It is true then, O Jefus, that out of Thee there is no true Life, that there is nothing but Death, Mifery, and real Hell.. Lord give me Grace to escape the Wrath to

come.

O happy Chriftian, who can boaft
The Son of God is mine!"

Happy, tho' humbled in the Duft;
Rich in this Gift divine.

He lives the Life of Heav'n below,

And fhall for ever live,
Eternal Streams from Chrift fhall flow,
And endlefs Vigour give.

WHatfoever is born of God, overcometh the World: And this, is the Victory that overcometh the World, even our Faith, I John v. 4.

A Christian, who follows the Inclination and acts by the Spirit of his new Birth, which gives him a new Heart and a new Love, is no longer of the World, and no longer knows its Lufts, any otherwife than as an Enemy, whom he has overcome, and whom he ought to purfee with the utmost Hatred. Faith is victorious when the Grace of Christ causes us to make Ufe of it. Faith, by the Means of Humility, which is its Attendant, and of Prayer, which is its first Fruit, renders a Chriftian invincible to the World. It is That, which thews us what good Things we must love, and what Evils we must fear: It is That, which obtains for us the Grace to love and to fear nothing but what is eternal.

The Guilt of twice ten thousand Sins

One Moment takes away,
And Grace, when firft the War begins,
Secures the crowning Day.

U

Drawn by fuch Cords we onward move,

Till round thy Throne we meet, 、 And Captives in the Chains of Love, Embrace our Conqu'ror's Feet.

OЯober 28.

JUDE

[blocks in formation]

E the Servant of Jefus Chrift, and Brother to James, to them that are fanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jefus Chrift, and called, Jude 1.

It is no extraordinary Thing to take the Title of Servant of Jefus Chrift, which has nothing in it but what is honourable; but to live as a Servant of Jesus Christ, in doing his Will and following his Example, this is very rare and extraordinary. No Man has the Fidelity of a Servant, with refpect to Him, but by the Love of a Son. The firft Caufe of the Calling of Souls is the eternal Love of God, fhewn in the Blood and Sufferings of Jefus Chrift; from hence alone all Happiness comes, from whence alone all Holinefs proceed.

Now, O my Joshua, bring me in,
Caft out my Foes; the inbred Sin,
The carnal Mind remove :

The Purchase of thy Death divide,
And O! with all the fanctify'd,
Give me a Lot of Love.
