5 Woe unto me! that I sojourn with MeshekThat I dwell amongst the tents of Kedar.

6 Too long have I dwelt with those who hate peace! I am disposed to peace;

But when I speak thereof, these men prepare for battle.

PSALM CXXI.

1 I RAISE mine eyes towards the hills, Whence will come my help.

2 My help will come from JEHOVAH, Maker of heaven and earth!

3 HE will not suffer thy foot to be moved; Thy guardian will not slumber.

4 Behold, the guardian of Israel Neither slumbereth nor sleepeth.

5 JEHOVAH will be thy guardian;

JEHOVAH will be thy shelter upon thy right-hand. 6 By day, the sun shall not hurt thee, Nor the moon, by night.

chosen, and toward the house that I have built for Thy Name; then hear Thou in heaven their prayer." 1 Kings viii. 42-44. Compare Ps. cxxxviii. 2. 3 This and the following verses contain the assurance that the divine aid will be afforded.

5 will be thy shelter upon thy right handi. e. will be present to protect thee. See Ps. cx. 5.

6 You shall be injured neither by the scorching heat of the day, nor by the extreme cold of the night.

7 JEHOVAH will guard thee from every ill,

JEHOVAH will guard thy life.

8 JEHOVAH will watch over thy going out and thy coming in, Henceforth even for ever.

PSALM CXXII.

I REJOICE, when men say unto me: "Let us go unto the House of JEHOVAH! 2 "Our feet shall stand

"Within thy gates, O Jerusalem !"

3 Jerusalem! She who is built a city,

With which all the people have fellowship— 4 Whither the tribes go up

The tribes of JEHOVAH,

According to the revelation made unto Israel,
To give praise unto the Name of JEHOVAH!
5 For there the thrones of judgment are placed—
The thrones of the house of David.

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem !
May they be prosperous who love thee!
7 May peace be within thy fortifications—
Prosperity within thy citadels!

8 Because of my brethren and friends,

I will say May peace be within thee!

9 Because of the House of JEHOVAH, our God, I will seek thy good.

PSALM CXXII.

PSALM CXXIII.

1UNTO Thee do I raise mine eyes,
O Thou, who dwellest in the heavens!
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants

Are upon the hand of their masters-
As the eyes of a maiden

Are upon the hand of her mistress;

So are our eyes upon JEHOVAH, our God,
Until He be gracious unto us.

3 Be gracious unto us, O JEHOVAH, be gracious unto us; For we are filled, above measure, with contempt;

4 Above measure, are we filled

With the scorn of those who live at ease

With the contempt of the haughty.

PSALM CXXIV.

1 HAD it not been JEHOVAH who was with us, May Israel now say

2 Had it not been JEHOVAH who was with us, When men rose up against us;

3 We had long ago been swallowed up alive, Because their anger was hot against us—

4 Long ago had the waters overwhelmed us— The torrent had gone over us—

Long ago had the torrent gone over us,

Even the swollen waters!

PSALM CXXIII.

2 Are upon the hand of their masters –

when expecting to receive some token of their masters' favour.

Blessed be JEHOVAH,

Who did not give us up, a prey unto their teeth!

7 We are delivered, as a bird, from the snare of the fowler; The snare is broken, and we are delivered!

Our help hath been in the Name of JEHOVAH,
Maker of heaven and earth!

PSALM CXXV.

1 THOSE, who trust in JEHOVAH, are like mount Sion;

It cannot be moved, it abideth for ever!

As the hills are round about Jerusalem,
So is JEHOVAH about His people,

Henceforth even for ever.

Truly, the sceptre of the wicked

Shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous;
Lest the righteous should put forth

Their hands unto iniquity.

4 Act kindly, O JEHOVAH, towards the good,

Yea, towards the upright in heart.

But as for those who turn aside into their crooked paths, May JEHOVAH destroy them with the workers of iniquity!

May peace be upon Israel!

PSALM CXXV.

3 rest-i. e. remain for a long continuance. -loti. e. inheritance. "And Joshua

cast lots for them in Shiloh before the

LORD and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions." Josh. xviii. 10. 5 their crooked paths-i. e. the paths of the workers of iniquity.

PSALM CXXVI.

1 WHEN JEHOVAH brought back the captives of Sion,

We were like persons in a dream!

2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
And our tongue with singing.

Then was it said amongst the heathen:
"JEHOVAH hath done great things for them."

3 JEHOVAH hath done great things for us,
Therefore are we glad!

4 Cause our captives to return, O JEHOVAH,

Like streams of water in the desert!

5 Let those, who have sown in tears, Reap with songs of joy!

6 Let him, who, weeping, carried forth seed for his sowing, Come home with songs of joy, bearing his sheaves.

PSALM CXXVII.

1 IF JEHOVAH do not build the house,

In vain do they toil who build it.

If JEHOVAH do not watch over the city,
In vain is the watchman vigilant.
