have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters, for I knew their sorrows. And I am come down to deliver them. Behold the hire of the labourers which have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped, are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. And I will come near to you to judgment, and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages".

SECT. 4. The duties of masters toward their servants.

Accuse not a servant unto his master; lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty. Masters, forbear threatening; knowing also that your master is in heaven, neither is their respect of persons with him". Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal, knowing that ye also have a master in heaven. Wo unto him that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work. And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, and saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home, sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed".

If I did despise the cause of my man-servant, or of my maid-servant, when they contended with me; what then shall I do when God riseth up? And when he visiteth, what shall I answer him? Did not he that made me in the womb, make him? Did not one fashion us in the womb'?

SECT. 5. Servants are bound to honour their masters. The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his Lord. It is enough for the disciple that he

be as his master, and the servant as his Lord". But which of you having a servant plowing, or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant, because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not". A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master. The eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and the eyes of a maiden unto the hands of her mistress". The king's favour is toward a wise servant; but his wrath is against him that causeth shame. A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame; and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren'.

SECT. 6. And to obey them, and be faithful in their service.

Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again, not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. Servants, be subject to your masters, with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward; for this is thank-worthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully". For what glory is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. Servants, be obedient to your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men*; knowing, that

whatsoever good thing any man doth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free, But he that doth wrong, shall receive for the wrong which he hath done; and there is no respect of persons. Το whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom you obey. That servant which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; but he that knew not and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. He that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me. He that worketh deceit, shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight". Art thou called being a servant? care not for it; but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman; likewise also, he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant'. Let as many servants as are under the yoke, count their own masters worthy of all honour; that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful, and beloved, partakers of the benefit*. Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eye-service, as menpleasers, but in singleness of heart fearing God. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily as to the Lord, and not unto men, knowing that of the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doth wrong shall receive for the wrong that he hath done; and there is no respect of persons'. These things teach and exhortTM.

SECT. 1. Of the origin of the church of God after the fall.

AND the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee, that thou shouldst not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest me to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field. And I will put enmity, between thee and the woman, “ and

between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel "."

And Eve bare a son, and called his name Seth. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos. "Then men began to call upon the name of the Lord "." And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth; and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually d And the Lord said, I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth; for it repenteth me that I have made them. "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord "."

SECT. 2. The covenant of God with Noah.

Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations; and Noah walked with God". And God looked upon the earth, and behold it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of Gopher-wood. And behold I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark; thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him ". And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth. All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land died. And God remembered Noah; and made a wind to
