IN general purpose and plan the present volume of Sermons by the Monday Club does not differ from those which have preceded it. In freshness of thought, aptness of illustration, and spiritual application of the truth, the contributors have endeavored to make it the best of the series. Their hope is that it will prove helpful to pastors who preach upon the lessons; to superintendents and teachers who are not content to explain the letter of Scripture, but desire to impress the truth in effective ways upon the conscience and heart; and to others, interested in Bible study, into whose hands it may fall. It is believed that the value of the volume is increased by the introductory essay on "the Interpretation of the Scriptures." 3 |
