7 But no man may deliver his brother: nor make agreement unto God for him;

8 For it cost more to redeem their souls: so that he must let that alone for ever;

9 Yea, though he live long : and see not the grave.

IO For he seeth that wise men also die and perish together.: as well as the ignorant and foolish, and leave their riches for other.

II And yet they think that their houses shall continue for ever and that their dwellingplaces shall endure from one generation to another; and call the lands after their own names.

13 This is their foolishness : and their posterity praise their saying.

14 They lie in the hell like sheep; death gnaweth upon them, and the righteous shall have dominion" over them in the morning: their beauty shall consume in the sepulchre out of their dwelling.

15 But God hath delivered my 56:13 Soul from the place of hell: for 116:8,9 he shall receive me.

But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?" S. Lu 12:19, 20. "Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay; he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver " Job 27:16, 17. See Ecclus. 11:19. Baruch 3:17-19.

The upright ones shall tread them down at the great Morning's breath."-Bp. Alexander.

"Together now, behold them laid;

As sheep when night extends her shade,
While death, within the vaulted rock

Stern shepherd, guards the slumb'ring flock."

Merrick.

And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do

8 This verse must be read as a parenthesis, as in K. J. Too costly; i. e. no wealth can save a man from death; therefore he must give up any idea of such a redemption. 9 This verse must be joined with verse seven, and the connection is, no man can give God a ransom that shall protect another against death. II God's people dwell in tents. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles" Heb. 11:9. 12 The words 66 this is the way of them" belong to the next verse. "The high and mighty ones of the earth must one day crowd the grave,-in multitude and impotence, though not in innocence, resembling sheep."-Bp. Horne. 14, 15 Hell, lit. Sheol; see Ps. 6:5, n.
