of trial, and conducts him away to the place where the worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

TWENTY-SEVENTH REASON.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"

Mark, viii. 36, 37.

TWENTY-EIGHTH REASON.

"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew, x. 28.

TWENTY-NINTH REASON.

"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

John, iii. 36.

THIRTIETH REASON.

"As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. THIRTY-FIRST REASON.

"The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.”

1 John, v. 16.

THIRTY-FIFTH REASON.

"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains, under darkness, unto the judgment of the great day. Jude, 6, 7.

THIRTY-SIXTH REASON.

"These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever."

Jude, 12, 13.

THIRTY-SEVENTH REASON.

"And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

Revelation, xx. 10.

THIRTY-EIGHTH REASON.

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abomi nable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their

part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

Revelation, xxi. 8,

THIRTY-NINTH REASON.

"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire,"

Revelation, xx. 14, 15.

FORTIETH REASON.

"But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damna. tion slumbereth not."

2 Peter, ii. 1, 2, 3,
