image, and so by the influence and aid of that Holy Spirit, may I be daily abhorring and forsaking every known sin, and loving and cleaving to every known duty. Oh Lord, grant that I may be thine for ever. Pity the weakness and folly and ignorance of my youth, and save me from the wickedness of my own deceitful heart. Teach me more and more my need of Jesus to be my Saviour. Give me faith in him, so that I may know him as the way and the truth and the life.

ways of thy commandments, that through thy most mighty protection both here and ever, I may be preserved in body and soul, through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Bless all who are dear to me; surround us this night and for ever by thy all-preserving goodness. Comfort all who want the comforts I enjoy. Provide for the wants of the poor and needy. Be merciful to the sick and afflicted part of mankind. Oh Father, if thou shouldst be pleased to visit me with trials, grant that I may be resigned to thy will-that I may behave on every occasion as I shall

wish to have done when I come to the closing scene of all. In that hour, oh God, look upon me in love, and passing by my sins and imperfections, for the sake of thy beloved Son, receive my spirit into the mansions of eternal blessedness. Amen. Our Father, &c.

OH LORD, my heavenly Father, thou that dwellest in the highest heavens, lift up the light of thy countenance upon me, and that shall put joy and gladness into my heart. Lord, thou art the greatest and best of beings, thou art good to all, and thy tender mercies are over all thy works. Help me to love thee as I ought, thou who hast so loved us as to give thy beloved Son to die for us, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Oh, let thy mercy lead me to thee in gratitude, in obedience, and in love. Lord, I would pour out my heart before thee, and pray thee to forgive me all my sins. I confess that my giddy

heart is too apt to forget thee amidst the occupations and vanities of the world. I confess that I sometimes pray to thee without that reverence and affection which I ought ever to feel, that I have sometimes dared to approach thy sacred Majesty while my heart has been straying from heaven and heavenly things. I lament over the pride and anger, the obstinacy and perverseness, that I sometimes feel; that I strive so little to conquer and overcome these my manifold sins. Oh God, wilt thou forgive them all, for the sake of Jesus Christ; and grant me the assistance of the Holy Spirit, to help me to love thee more and serve thee better. Let me never venture into the dangers and temptations of the day, without praying that thou, heavenly Father, wouldst be with me, to keep me from sin and deliver me from evil. Let me not lie

down to sleep till I have committed myself to thy care through the dangers of the night, for it is thou only who canst make me to dwell in safety. And Lord, I desire to pray to thee for all who are near and dear to me. Pour down upon them the same blessings which I ask for myself. Grant that we may be all running the same heavenly race; and when Jesus shall come in the clouds of heaven, and every eye shall see him, oh may we then stand acknowledged as those who were purchased by his blood and led by his Spirit, and may hear him say, Come, ye blessed children of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
