II. All stops to be observed which occur before the accented syllable in each half verse; but all which occur after it to be totally disregarded. III. Stress to be laid (not a pause made) on each accented syllable; and all syllables which follow it before the first bar, to be lightly, though distinctly, uttered. Any chants, whether Gregorian or single or double Anglican, may be used; but the editor strongly recommends the exclusion of all florid chants, whether double or single; and suggests as models for congregational use, such chants as Tallis' well-known beautiful tone in,F, or the 6th Gregorian tone.
