And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the 18 parable. And he saith unto them; Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot 19 defile him? because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly; and goeth out into the draught, 20 purging all meats. Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts 22 of Tyre and Sidon. And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coast, and cried unto him, saying; Have mercy on me, O Lord, 25 thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed 23 with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And 26 his disciples came and besought him, saying; Send her away, for she crieth af24 ter us. But he answered and said; I am not sent but 25 unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying; Lord, help me! But he 26 answered and said; It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. 27 And she said; Truth, Lord; yet the dogs eat of the 29 crubs which fall from their 28 master's table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her; O woman, great is thy faith; be it unto thee, even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

And from thence he arose, and went into the borders

of Tyre and Sidon; and entered into a house, and would have no man know it; but he could not be hid. For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet; (the woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation;) and she besought him that he would cast forth. the devil out of her daughter. But Jesus said unto her; Let the children first be filled; for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. And she answered and said upto him; Yes, Lord; yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs. And he said unto her; For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter. And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

MARK VII.

And they bring

unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech, and they beseech him to put his hand upon 33 him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him; Ephphatha, that is, be opened. 35 And straightway his ears

were opened; and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. 36 And he charged them that they should tell no man; but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it. 37 And they were beyond measure astonished, saying; He hath done all things well; he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

Then Jesus called his dis-8 ciples unto him, and said; I have compassion on the multitude, because it is now three days that they continue with me, and they have nothing to eat; and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint) 33 in the way. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. 36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 37 And they did all eat, and were filled; and they took up of the broken meat that was left 38 seven baskets full. And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and 39 children. And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

satisfy these men with bread 5 here in the wilderness? And he asked them; How many loaves have ye? And they 6 said; Seven. And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the peo7 ple. And they had a few small fishes; and he blessed, and commanded to set them 8 also before them. So they did eat, and were filled; and they took up of the broken meat that was left, sev9 en baskets. And they that had eaten were about four thousand; and he sent them away.

And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts 11 of Dalmanutha. And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith; Why doth this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say unto you, there shall no sign be given to this generation. And he left them, and entering into the ship again, departed to the other side.

16 The Pharisees also and the Sadducees came, and, tempting, desired him that he would shew them a sign from heav2 en. He answered and said 12 unto them; When it is evening, ye say; It will be fair weather; for the sky is 3 red. And in the morning; It will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and 13 lowering. And he cometh to Bethsaida. And they bring a blind unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, 24 he asked him if he saw aught. And he looked up, and said ;
