guiding him into all truth, and comforting him in all his sickness and sorrow; and this we ask in the name and for the sake of Jesus Christ thine only Son our Lord. Amen.

( most merciful God, who hast appointed the ministers of reconciliation to lead thy people to the right faith and practice as revealed in the Gospel of thy Son, especially hear us now, and grant, O Lord, that thy message may faithfully be delivered to him whom thou hast visited with sickness, and be so accompanied by thy blessing, that he may profitably hear thy holy word and conform his life to thy holy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty and most merciful God, we are taught in thy holy word that life and death depend alone on thee, and that we may not, without greatly sinning, put our trust in any creature; stretch forth thy hand, O Lord we pray, to heal, if it be thy good pleasure, the sickness of thy servant; and grant, that whatever means he may use for his recovery, he may depend wholly upon thee and implore thy blessing on the same; and shouldst thou raise him up, O Lord, make him truly

Almighty and merciful God, who alone art A Prayer able to remove the pains of our mortal nature; behold this thine afflicted servant in great distress; oh, pity his sorrows, and remember that he is but dust; take from him thy heavy hand lest he perish; but if thou seest fit to continue thy visitation, oh, give him strength and patience to endure; even so, righteous Father, as it seemeth good in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty and gracious God, we approach the throne of mercy in behalf of this thy servant in distress; his wearied flesh desireth refreshing sleep, but as yet "thou holdest his eyes waking;" have compassion upon the infirmities of his nature, and seal his eyes with gentle slumber, which shall weaken the strength of the malady, and tend to his recovery; so that, waking from sweet sleep, he may, with renewed power, bless thy holy name for this thy mercy; for the sake of Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord. Hear also the intercessions of thy Son the blessed Jesus in his behalf, and listen to this our prayer, presented in his name; through the same Jesus Christ our only Advocate and Saviour. Amen.

O God, in whom we live and move and have has received our being, whose providence is over all thy works, and without whose permission not a hair of our head falleth to the ground; let thy fatherly compassion regard thy servant, brought down low by this event: suffer not, we beseech thee, this visitation to be unto death, but graciously stretch forth thy hand and heal that which is wounded, and bind up that which is broken. Teach him now in this his time of trouble seriously to ponder all his
