1 Cor. ill. 23. And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's. 1 Cor. xv, 24, 27. 28. The cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he shall have put down all rule, and all authority and power. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, All things are put un ler him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. Eph. i, 20. He [God] raised Him [Christ] from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places. Phil. ii. 9. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name. Heb. i, 9. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, cren thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. from me, but I lay it down of my self: I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. John xil, 49, 50. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. John xiv, 24. 28. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, Father is greater than I. I go unto the Father: for my John xv, 15. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Heb. il, 8, 9. Thou hast put all things in subjection under his the Father hath are mine: thereJohn xvi, 15. All things that feet. CHRIST AS MEDIATOR. SUBORDINATE TO THE FATHER. John v, 20, 26, 30. For the Father loveth the Son and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son..... I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judg ment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. John viil, 26, 28. 29. I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as my Father bath taught me, I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me: the Father bath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. John x, 18. No man taketh it thee on the earth: I have finished Johr. xvii, 4, 7. I have glorified the work which thou gavest me to do. Now they have known that all things, whatsoever thou hast given me, are of thee. Acts x, 38. How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 1 Cor. xi, 3. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Father that in him should all fulCol. i, 19. For it pleased the ness dwell. CHRIST AS JUDGE. Matth. xvi. 27. For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father, with his angels, and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Matth. xxiv, 30. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth inourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Mark xiii, 26. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. John ▼, 22. For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son. Acts x, 42. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. Rom. ii. 16. In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. Rom. xiv, 10. But why dost thou thou set at nought thy brother? judge thy brother? or why dost for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 2 Cor. v, 10. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body. according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Tim. iv, 1. I charge thee therefore before God,and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom. Heb. x, 37. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. clouds: and every eye shall see Rev. 1,7. Behold, he cometh with him, and they also which pierced shall wail because of him. him: and all kindreds of the earth Rev. xxii, 7, 12, 20. Behold, I come quickly; blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book. And, behold, with me, to give every man acI come quickly; and my reward is cording as his work shall be. He testifleth which these things saith, Surely I come quickly; Even so, come, Lord Amen. Jesus. 1 Cor. 1, 7. So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Phil. iii, 20. For our conversa" tion is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. iii, 3, 4. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 1 Thess. i, 10. And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. Titus ii, 3. Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and | a flame of fire, and on his head Our Saviour Jesus Christ. Heb. ix, 28. So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many: and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time, without sin, unto salvation. Rev. iii, 11. His eyes were as were many crowns; and he had a THE WICKED ONE, AND only he who now letteth o let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all power, and signs, and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie; That they all might be damned who believed not the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 1 John ii, 22. Who is a liar, but he that denieth that Jesus is the He is antichrist, that Christ? denieth the Father and the Son. 2 Thess. ii, 1--12. Now we be seech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter Christ is at hand. Let no man as from us, as that the day of deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he, as God, sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these 2 John 7. For many deceivers things? And now ye know what are entered into the world, who withholdeth that he might be re- confess not that Jesus Christ is vealed in his time. For the mys- come in the flesh. This is a deterv of iniquity doth already work:ceiver and an antichrist. 813 that confesseth not that Jesus 1 John iv, 8. And every spirit Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. I. THE JEWISH NATION ITS ORIGIN AND PURPOSE. Gen. xii, 1-3. Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Exod. vi, 7. And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. Exod. xix, 6. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. Deut. vil, 6, 7. For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; (for ye were the fewest of all people.) Deut. x, 15. Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day. Deut. xiv, 2. For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. Deut. xxvi, 17-19. Thon hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his Voice: And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken. Deut. xxvili, 9, 10. The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee. Deut. xxxii, 9. For the LORD's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. P8. CXXXV, 4. For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure. Isa. xxix, 22. Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale. Isa. xli, 8, 9. But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. Isa. Ixil, 12. And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken. Jer. xxxi, 1. At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. Ezek. xxxvii, 27. My tabernacle also shall be with them; yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Joel iii, 21. For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the LORD dwelleth in Zion. other people, that ye should be mine. Deut. iv, 7. For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for? God hath chosen him out of all Deut. xviii, 5. For the LORD thy thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever. Deut. xxvii, 9. And Moses, and the priests the Levites, spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; This day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God. 2 Sam. vii, 24. For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God. 1 Chron. xvi, 12, 13. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judg ments of his mouth; O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones. 1 Chron. xvii, 9, 10, 22. Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more, neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning, And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel: moreover, I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee, that the LORD will build thee an house. For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God. the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. Isa. Ix, 15, 21. Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations. Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified. Isa. lxvi, 22. For as the new heavens, and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain Jer. xxxi, 36, 37. If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the LORD, If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath; I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD. Jer. xxxili, 17, 18, 25, 26. For thus saith the LORD, David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel: Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt-offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually. Thus saith the LORD, If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth. Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them. Joel iii, 20. But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. Amos iii, 2. You only have I Known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. Mal. i, 5. And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be magnified from the border of Israel. John viii, 39. They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. Rom. ii, 17-19. Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are Jacob went down into Egypt, and in darkness. died, he, and our fathers. Rom. iii, 1, 2. What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. 2 Cor. xi, 22. Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I. also have confidence in the flesh. Phil. iii, 4, 5. Though I might If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee. II-ISRAEL IN EGYPT. Gen. xlvi, 2-7. And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I. And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation. I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes. And Jacob rose up from Beer-sheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the waggons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him: His sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and all Lis seed, brought he with him into Egypt. Exod. i, 1--5. Now these are the names of the children of Israel which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob. Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Isaachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already. SUFFERINGS IN EGYPT. Exod. 1, 8-11, 13, 14. Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we. Come on, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it falleth out any war, they join also come to pass, that, when there unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to af flict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour: And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve was with rigour. Exod. ii, 23. And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried; and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. Exod. iii, 16, 17. Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD GOD of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt: And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Ilittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey. Exod. vi, 1, 5, 6, 9. Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land. And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant. Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage; and I will redeem you with a stretched-out arm, and with great judgments. And Moses spake so unto the chil dren of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage. Exod. xi, 1. And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one Deut. iv, 20. But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day. Deut. v, 6. I am the LORD thyme, who am of uncircumcised God, which brought thee out of lips? And the LORD spake unto the land of Egypt, from the house Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge nnto the children of bondage. of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king Deut. xxvi, 6, 7. Go in, journey into the desert, and sacrilet you go, he shall surely thrust speak unto Pharaoh king office unto the LORD our God; lest you out hence altogether. Egypt, that he let the children of he fall upon us with pestilence, or Israel go out of his land. And with the sword. And the king of Moses spake before the LORD, Egypt said unto them, Wherefore saying, Behold, the children of do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the Israel have not hearkened unto people from their works? get you me; how then shall Pharaoh hear unto your burdens. And Pharach said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burlens. And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: And Mosos returned unto the LORD, These are that Aaron and Moses, and said, Lord, wherefore hast to whom the LORD said. Bring out thou so evil-entreated this peothe children of Israel from the ple? why is it that thou lest sent Land of Egypt, according to their me? For since I came to Pharaoh armies. These are they which to speak in thy name, he hath spake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, done evil to this people; neither to bring out the children of Is-hast thou delivered thy people at rael from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron. And it came Exod. vil, 16. And thou shalt to pass, on the day when the say unto him, The LORD God of LORD spake unto Moses in the the Hebrews hath sent me unto land of Egypt, That the LORD thee, saying, Let my people go, spake unto Moses, saying. I am that they may serve me in the the LOR: speak thou unto Pha-wilderness; and, behold, hitherto raoh king of Egypt all that I say thou wouldest not hear. unto thee. And Moses said before the LORD, Behold, I am of Pharaoh hearken unto me? uncircumcised lips, and how shall 1 Kings viii, 51. For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron. Isa. ii, 4. For thus saith the Lord Gop, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause. Acts vii, 7, 18, 19, 34. And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place. Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph: The same dealt subtilely with our kindred, and evil-entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live. I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver then. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. COMMISSION OF MOSES. Exod. iii, 10-12, 18. Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee that I have sent thee; When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him. The Lord God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the Exod. vii. 2, 7, 14, 15. Thou shalt speak all that I command thee; and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go. Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand. HIS EXECUTION OF IT. Exod. v, 1-5, 20, 22, 23. And all. And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacri fice to your God in the land. And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomina tion of the Egyptians to the LORD out God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abominationof the Egyptian before their eyes, and will they not stone us? We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he shall command us. And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: entreat for me. And Moses said, Behold, i go out from thee, and I will entreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, tomorrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more, in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD. Exod. ix, 1, 13, 15, 17. Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaohs, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
