9 I will take no bullock out of thy house,

Nor he goats out of thy folds. 10 For every beast of the forest is mine,

And the cattle upon a thousand hills. 11 I know all the fowls of the mountains,

And the wild beasts of the field are 'mine. 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee;

For the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. 13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls,

Or drink the blood of goats ? 14 Offer hunto God thanksgiving,

And i pay thy vows unto the Most High,
15 And call upon me in the day of trouble:
I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

But unto the wicked God saith,
What hast thou to do to declare my statutes,

Or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? 17 Seeing 'thou hatest instruction,

And castest my words behind thee. 18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou m consentedst

with him, And 'hast been partaker with adulterers. 19 Thou 'givest thy mouth to evil,

And thy tongue frameth deceit. 20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother, Thou slanderest thine own mother's son.

These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; Thou o thoughtest that I was altogether such an one

21

as thyself; But I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine

eyes.

I To the chief Musician on Neginoth, [i. e., upon the stringed instruments.]

A Psalm or Song.

i God be merciful unto us, and bless us;

And cause his face to shine 'upon us. Selah! 2 That b thy way may be known upon earth,

Thy. saving health among all nations. 3 Let the people praise thee, O God!

Let all the people praise thee! 4 O let the nations be glad and sing for joy;

For thou shalt judge the people righteously, And 'govern the nations upon earth. Selah! 5 Let the people praise thee, O God;

Let all the people praise thee! 6 Then d shall the earth yield her increase;

And God, even our own God, shall bless us. 7 God shall bless

us,
And all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

DURING THE CAPTIVITY, WHEN THE CAPTIVES BEGAN TO

INDULGE AN EXPECTATION OF IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

The Psalmist earnestly prayeth, and professeth his hope in the forgiving mercy of

God, 1-4; he waiteth and longeth for his salvation, 5, 6; he exhorteth Israel to hope in God, 7, 8.

T A Song of Degrees.

1 Out « of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD! 2 Lord, hear my voice; Let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my suppli

cations. 3 If bthou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities,

O LORD, who shall stand ? 4 But there is forgiveness with thee, That d thou mayest be feared.

I wait for the LORD, My soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. 6 My soul waiteth for the LORD More than they that watch for the morning; I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

Let Israel hope in the LORD; For e with the LORD there is mercy, And with him is plenteous redemption. 8 And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

TA Psalm of David.

!

1 Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul !
2 O my God, I trust in thee;
Let me not be ashamed,
Let not mine enemies triumph over me.
3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed;

Let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. 4 Show me thy ways, O LORD;

Teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me; For thou art the God of my salvation;

On thee do I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O LORD, 'thy tender mercies and thy

loving-kindnesses; For they have been ever of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my trans

gressions : According to thy mercy remember thou me For thy goodness' sake, O Lord!

Good and upright is the LORD, Therefore will he teach sinners in the way. 9 The meek will he guide in judgment,

And the meek will he teach his way. 10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth

Unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

11 For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity;

For it is great. 12 What man is he that feareth the LORD?

Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. 13 His d soul shall 'dwell at ease,

And his seed shall inherit the earth. 14 The e secret of the Lord is with them that fear him, • And he will show them his covenant.

Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD, For he shall ‘pluck my feet out of the net. 16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me;

For I am desolate and afflicted. 17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged, O bring thou me out of my distresses.

. 18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain, And forgive all my

sins. 19 Consider mine enemies, for they are many;

And they hate me with 'cruel hatred. 20 O keep my soul, and deliver me:

Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in thee. 21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me,

For I wait on thee. 22 Redeem Israel, O God!
