DEAR SIR,

Strelitz, October 25, 1766.

Confefs it gives me a fingular pleafure to find, that my account of the duchy of Mecklenburg has afforded you any fatisfaction; and that

you think it a fubject worthy of

the public attention. Juftly have you obferved that this country being in a nook of Germany, and no thoroughfare to any of the great electorates, is the reason why it has hitherto efcaped the notice of moft travellers. This, however, is a circumftance that may render my correfpondence the more entertaining, from the novelty of the subject, which scarce has been attempted by any English writer.
