have laid down our heads in safety, and risen in peace; we praise and bless thy holy name for this, and all thine unnumbered mercies vouchsafed to us every day of our lives, notwithstanding our repeated sins, and forgetfulness of thee.

Pardon us, O Heavenly Father, we humbly beseech thee, for Jesus Christ's sake. Look mercifully upon this family: let thy blessing be on those members who are absent, as well as those now present. Protect and deliver us from all evil this day, and especially from sin; support and guide us; hold us up and save us, that we come not under thy displeasure for transgressing, this day, any of thy laws. Thou, Lord, hast

appointed us a way to walk in, and commanded that we should not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. As thou hast commanded, even so, give us grace to do! Let us not follow our own will, nor the will of other men; let us not obey the world, nor the desires of our own sinful hearts; but do thou make us diligent to consider always beforehand what we shall speak, and what we shall do: do thou govern and direct our eyes, that we may always look straight to thy law; and make every one of us, in thought, word, and deed, to seek thy honour and glory, the good of our own souls, and the everlasting welfare of all around us.

And now, O gracious Lord God, we hum

bly commend ourselves and all whom we would remember in our prayers, to thy fatherly protection, through Christ Jesus, our Saviour and Redeemer. Amen.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

O God the Father, of heaven: have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.

O God the Son, Redeemer of the world: have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.

O God the Holy Ghost, proceeding from the Father and the Son: have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.

O Holy, Blessed, and Glorious Trinity, three persons and one God: have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.

Remember not, Lord, our offences; neither take thou vengeance of our sins; spare us, good Lord, spare thy people, whom thou hast redeemed with thy most precious blood; and be not angry with us for ever: spare us, good Lord.

From all evil; especially from the evil of sin: from the crafts and assaults of the devil: from thy wrath, and from everlasting damnation; good Lord, deliver us.

From blindness of heart: from self-conceit, and hypocrisy: from envy, hatred, and

malice, and all uncharitableness; good Lord, deliver us.

From fornication, and all other deadly sin and from all the deceits of the world, the flesh, and the devil; good Lord, deliver us.

In all time of our tribulation; in all time of our wealth: in the hour of death, and the day of Judgment; good Lord, deliver us.

We pray to thee, Almighty God, for future mercies; let us not forget to acknowledge those which we have already received. We bless thee for our creation; we bless thee for preserving us till now; we bless thee for all thy goodness towards us; but above all, we bless thee for sending thy Son Jesus Christ into the world, to die for our sins, and to rise again for our justification. We beseech thee to make us so sensible of. thy mercies, that our hearts may be truly thankful that we may praise thee, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to thy service, and walking before Thee in holiness and righteousness all our days: through Jesus Christ, our Lord, to whom with thee, and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

Lord have mercy upon us! &c., as at page 16.

Or this. (2)

O ALMIGHTY God, who, dwelling in the highest heavens, yet vouchsafest to regard the lowest creature here on earth; we humbly adore thy sacred Majesty, and with all the powers of our souls and bodies we exalt and praise thy holy name for all the mercies and comforts of this life, and for the hope and assurance of a better: for protecting us from the evils and perils of the night past, and for bringing us safely to the light of a new day: continue this thy mercy and goodness towards us, and as thou hast awakened our bodies from sleep, so raise our souls from the death of sin, unto a life of righteousness. Take us under thy fatherly protection this day, and preserve us from all evil, especially from sin. We implore thy special blessing on all our relations and friends, (in particular on the absent members of our families) give thy holy angels charge over them, to protect them from sin and danger make us diligent in the duties of our several callings, so that in all the changes and chances of this life, we may absolutely submit to thy Divine Providence. Let thy blessing be on our actions, and thy wisdom direct our intentions, that so the conduct of our lives, and the designs of our hearts, may be ordered by thy governance to do always that is righteous in thy sight, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

THURSDAY MORNING.

ALMIGHTY God, who hast commanded us to call upon thee; help us to draw near to thee with our hearts, and not with our lips alone.

We do not kneel before thee, trusting in our own righteousness; but in thy great mercy. If thou wert to judge us according as we deserve, we could not stand in thy sight. If we said that we had no sin, there would be no truth in us. But thou hast promised to receive all those who come to thee in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ; thou hast said, that His blood cleanseth from all sin. Teach us to trust in Him with all our hearts Him in our lives.

and enable us to obey Enable us to walk worthily of our high calling: enable us to renounce the devil and all His works: the vanities of this wicked world, and all the sinful lusts of the flesh. Enable us to live righteously, soberly, and godly; and so to finish our course with joy, looking for the second coming of our Lord and Saviour, when He shall take to Himself for ever those who have been His disciples here on earth.

Bless, O God, all our relations and friends. Give them the same mercies which we ask for ourselves. Give them all things needful both for soul and body. Into thy hands we commend ourselves for this day. May it help to prepare us for the great day of ac
