434 Bruckeri (Jac.) Pinacotheca, Scriptorum notra ætate Literis illustrium, exhibens Auctorum eruditionis laude scriptisque celeberrimorum, qui hodie vivunt, Imagines et Elogia, fine, impressions of the portraits, folio, russia elegant, gilt leaves, 51. 15s. 6d. Aug. Vind. 1741-50

This work is so scarce as to have escaped Brunet, until the publication of his supplement. See, also, Dr. Dibdin's Library Companion. It contains the lives and eulogies of living characters, with their portraits, in mezzotint, by Haidius; the biography is by the pen of the author of the Philosophiæ Historia Critica, known all over Europe. I never saw but one copy of this hugely covetable performance, and that was in the library of my friend, Mr. A. Chalmers, obtained from a sale in Holland, but, as I have reason to think, not under the sum of 101. 10s. -Dibdin.

"The celebrated Jordano Bruno was born at Nola in the Kingdom of Naples, about 1540. He visited England in 1583, and became the intimate friend of Sir Philip Sidney, Sir Fulke Greville, and others. Bruno on his return to Italy, was arrested at Venice, and from thence conducted to Rome, where he was burnt by order of the Inquisition, as an atheist and teacher of irreligion."
