Should this little Work tend, in some to detach any pious, especially if also learned and influential, persons, from the pursuit of a study which the Author has been led to consider as injurious both to the personal religion of individuals, and to the interests of Christianity generally, and to devote their valuable talents and time, in that additional proportion, to objects unequivocally useful and profitable; should it also tend to remove, at least, one obstacle out of the way of Christian unity, and to lead one portion, at least, of the Church of Christ, to recognise more distinctly, and to appreciate more highly than heretofore, a most important part of our Lord's mediatorial work, viz. that of his Priestly Office-the Author will consider the labour he has bestowed on the following pages, richly and abundantly rewarded.

THE individual designated in the following pages, "our INQUIRER," having frequently heard allusions made to Millennarianism, felt desirous to obtain some knowledge of that theory; and, with this view, pursued his inquiries, by means of books, and conversations with friends, until he had, in some measure, satisfied his curiosity. What, however, he heard and read, produced no impression upon his mind favourable to the system; but, on the contrary, tended to impress him with a strong persuasion of its utter fallacy.

Under this conviction, he is, in the following pages, supposed to hold several conversations on the subject with an intimate friend, who had some years before embraced Millennarianism; after having, for a considerable time previously, opposed it with great zeal and perseverance.
