natural bodies of the pre-millennarian resurrection, even on your own Millennarian interpretation of the Scriptures? Is it not quite evident, even on your own shewing, that at the alleged premillennial resurrection, the bodies of the raised and "changed" saints will not be bodies of flesh and blood, adapted to residence on the earth, but glorious bodies, resembling the glorious body of their Saviour, suited only to a residence in heaven. Our Inquirer here observed, by the way, way, that he thought the desire, manifested by his Millennarian Friend, to prove that the bodies of the saints of the pre-millennial resurrection, will be human bodies, indicated consciousness on his part, that spiritual or glorified bodies are not adapted to intercourse with men upon the earth, and, indeed, some Millennarians had distinctly admitted this. He begged, however, here to observe that such concession was no legitimate bar to the consequences invariably flowing from their peculiar interpretations of the Scriptures. Our Inquirer added, that the Scriptures gave us no account of any other change of the human body, but that from a natural (or animal) and corruptible body, to a spiritual and incorruptible body. On this last-mentioned Millennarian supposition, however, it was clear that there would be two other CHANGES of the saints; (for they cannot "DIE any

more ") one, of the original human body into another human body; and the other, of this second human body, finally into a spiritual or glorious body; Two transformations of the saints, concerning, which, the Scriptures themselves contain not a single syllable.

His Millennarian Friend remaining silent, our Inquirer said, he should now consider himself as at full liberty to pursue the consequences of the Millennarian hypothesis, on the ground of the bodies of the alleged pre-millennial resurrection, and also the bodies of the pre-millennial changed" saints, being spiritual and glorified bodies, of a nature altogether different from the natural, or animal body, and as being as properly adapted to heaven, as the latter is to the earth in which we now dwell. Nevertheless he should feel gratified if his Millennarian Friend would state any thing farther which had occurred to him in the form of objection, or otherwise, bearing on the present subject, before he proceeded to advert more specifically to the consequences inevitably flowing from the doctrine of the pre-millennial advent.

His MILLENNARIAN FRIEND then observed,

that even on the anti-millennarian hypothesis,

saints in glorified bodies will be present with our Lord at the day of Final Judgment, and why not then, during the Millennium? In reply, our INQUIRER said, that the transactions of that day would be unavoidably of so preternatural a character, that he thought it would be unwise to draw from them any inference as to the composition of the earth's population during an intermediate period of, at least, 1000 years; and were the case, otherwise, it should be remembered that there will, at the Final Judgment, be no saints in natural bodies for them to hold intercourse with; since it is evident, that all the saints in human bodies, then living on the earth, will be "changed;" that they will rise after the saints of the resurrection "to meet the Lord in the air," and, further, that they will have no successors.

His MILLENNARIAN FRIEND then said, supposing that the holy angels are pure spirits, which idea seems to be countenanced by the phenomena of demoniacal agency (for the angels of Satan were once the angels of God), and that they have personal intercommunion with the glorified saints in heaven (as the anti-millennarians themselves suppose), why should it be thought incredible, that there should be a similar intercommunion between the latter and saints in natural bodies during the Millennium ;

since so far as relates to diversity of nature, the latter appears to involve less contrariety than the former? Our INQUIRER replied, that it did not seem quite clear, that the proper nature of the angels in heaven is that of pure spirit; the fact may be that a body, of some kind or other, is absolutely necessary to the intercourse of all created intelligencies; and, indeed, this appears the more probable from the declaration of our Lord, in reference to the risen saints, viz. that they will be" as the angels of God in heaven." But were the case otherwise, said our Inquirer, it is reasonable to suppose, that, as to superior natures, the mode of personal intelligible communication will, as he had already intimated, be very different from that of mankind; and that, since it has actually pleased God, that the angels and glorified saints should dwell together in the same place, we cannot doubt that the natures of these two classes of celestial inhabitants will be respectively adapted to mutual intercourse: whereas, in regard to the question before us, the case is altogether different; for to different; for to such intercourse between glorified saints, and saints in human bodies, the Scriptures afford no countenance whatever; but, on the contrary, as we have seen, and, in the sequel, shall still further see, discountenance the supposition of any such personal association.

And besides, added our Inquirer, it appears to me, that the last suggestion of my Millennarian Friend increases the difficulty in question; since in proportion as the glorified body is fitted for intelligible intercourse with purely spiritual natures, is the probability that it will not be fitted for such intercourse with the unglorified saints of the Millennium.

Our Inquirer said he felt another difficulty, touching this subject, which he thought he ought not to pass by unnoticed. It related, he said, to the medium of the supposed intelligible intercourse of the two classes of saints, in question, with each other. As it may reasonably be presumed that all the unconverted persons, or persons not really Christians, who shall be living on the earth at the commencement of the Millennium, and their posterity, will speak the language of the countries in which they shall respectively have been born, or may reside, it would, of course, be necessary for the above-mentioned purpose, that the saints in spiritual bodies, supposed to be spread over every part of the earth in which saints in natural bodies shall be found, should be able to converse at once in the language of the inhabitants of each country respectively; which our Inquirer thought was exceedingly improbable.
