[The Morning Collects.]

The Daily Morning Collect.

O LORD, our heavenly FATHER, Almighty and everlasting GOD, Who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; Defend us in the same with Thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by Thy governance, to do always that is righteous in Thy sight; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

[The Morning Hymn.]

A Prayer for Docility and Diligence.

O LORD JESU CHRIST, Who wast found sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing and asking them questions, and Who didst afterwards return home with Thy parents and wast subject to them, grant that these Thy children may be diligent in learning, and meekly obedient to those whom Thou hast set over them, that so they may grow in wisdom as they grow in stature, and be in favour both with GOD and man. Amen.

A Morning Litany.

Glory be to Thee, O LORD, glory be to Thee, Who hast given us sleep to refresh our weakness, and to lighten the labours of this fragile flesh.

That this day, and every day, we may pass in the perfecting of holiness, in peace, health, and innocence, Grant us, Good LORD.

That the angel of peace may encamp about us,
Grant us, Good LORD.

The pardon and remission of all our sins and transgressions,

Grant us, Good LORD.

To our souls what is good and profitable, and to the world peace,

Grant us, Good LORD.

That we may accomplish the remainder of our lives in penitence and godly fear, in health of body, and peace of mind,

Grant us, Good LORD.

Deliverance from all that is evil; from neglect of what we know to be our duty, and from idleness in performing it; from lying, deceit, and hypocrisy ; from hatred, malice, and ill-will; from stubbornness and obstinacy; from pride and petulance; from irreverence and ingratitude,

Grant us, Good LORD.

Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever

things are of good report; that we may think on these things and do them,

Grant us, Good LORD.

Thy merciful goodness on all sorts and conditions of men; on Thy holy Church throughout all the world; on our Queen and those in authority; on those who serve Thee in the ministry of Thy Word, or in the nurture of Thy little ones; on our dear parents and friends; on the fatherless children and widows, and all that are in any trouble; on the tempted, the faint-hearted, the sick, and the captive; on the weary and heavy-laden, on the erring and fallen, Grant us, Good LORD.

That we may do unto others as we would that others should do unto us, and love one another as Thou gavest commandment,

Grant us, Good LORD.

A Christian termination of our lives, free from sin and shame, and, if such be Thy pleasure, free from pain; and a good account of ourselves before the dread tribunal of our LORD JESUS CHRIST,

Grant us, Good LORD.

R. Our help standeth in the Name of The LORD: A. Who hath made heaven and earth.

[graphic][merged small]

OUR FATHER, Which art in heaven:

Hallowed be Thy Name:

Thy kingdom come:

Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread:

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them

that trespass against us :

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil :

For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Reader. LORD, I call upon Thee, haste Thee unto

me:

Answer. And consider my voice when I cry unto Thee.

R. Let my prayer be set forth in Thy sight as the incense :

A. And the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.

R. I will lay me down in peace, and take my rest: A. For it is Thou, LORD, only, that makest me dwell in safety.

[The Selection from the Psalter, to conclude with the doxology.]

R. Glory be to GOD in the highest :
A. On earth peace, good-will towards men.

[The Evening Collects.]

The Daily Evening Collect.

Lighten our darkness, we beseech Thee, O LORD; and by Thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of Thy only SON, our SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

[The Evening Hymn.]

A Prayer for Divine Guidance.

O LORD JESU CHRIST, Who didst take little children in Thine arms and bless them, and didst say that of such was the kingdom of heaven, grant to these Thy children here present, health of body and childlike innocence of spirit, that they, obeying Thy will, and alway being in safety under Thy protection, may abide in Thy love unto their lives' end. Amen.
