and to them that keep his commandments. 5. We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts, and from thy judgments. 6. Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7. O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; unto all Israel, that are near and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee. 8. O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of faces, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. 9. To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; 10. neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws which he set before us by his servants the prophets. 15. And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.Daniel ix. 4—15.

ble God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee that hath come upon us, on our kings, our princes, and our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people. Howbeit thou art just in all that is brought upon us, for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly. Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law nor hearkened unto thy commandments, and thy testimonies wherewith thou didst testify against them. For they have not served thee in their kingdom and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works. Nehemiah ix. 32—35.

KING'S CONFESSIONS.

I have sinned this time; the Lord is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.-Exodus ix. 27.

I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and thy words; because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. Now, therefore, I pray thee pardon my sin, and turn again with me that I may worship the Lord.-1 Samuel xv. 24, 25.

Even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep what have they done? Let thine hand, I pray thee, O Lord my God, be on me and on my father's house; but not on thy people that they should be plagued.— 1 Chron. xxi. 17.

PETITIONS.

“And the king said, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee; and what is thy request further? and it

shall be done."-Esther ix. 12.
