Arise, O Lord ; disappoint him, cast him down, deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword; from men which are thy hand, O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure; they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness : I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness.—Ps. xvii. 13.

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season I am not silent. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in thee; they trusted, and thou didst deliver them; they cried unto thee, and were delivered; thy trusted in thee, and were not confounded. Thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts. I was cast upon thee from the womb; thou art my God from my mother's belly. Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint ; my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels ; my strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws ; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. But be not thou far from me, O Lord : O my strength, haste thee to help

I trusted in thee, O Lord : I said thou art my God. My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.—Ps. xxxi. 14.

Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me : fight against them that fight

against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me : say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. Lord, how long wilt thou look on ? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions. Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me. For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are at quiet in the land. This thou hast seen, O Lord : keep not silence: 0 Lord, be not far from me.

Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousness; and let not them rejoice over

of my strength : why dost thou cast me off ? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy ?-Ps. xliii. 1.

Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplications. Attend unto me, and hear me; I mourn in my complaint and make a noise ; Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked ; for they cast iniquity upon me and in wrath they hate me.

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul. Shall they escape by iniquity ? in thine anger cast down the people, O God. Thou tellest my wanderings : put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book ? When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know ; for God is for me.-Ps. lvi. 1, &c.

Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and from bloody men. They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.-Ps. lix. 1.
