Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness : and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.-Ps. lxix. 16, &c.

In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape : incline thine ear unto me, and save me, for thou art my rock and my fortress. Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.-Ps. lxxi. 1.

O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul, and have not set thee before them. O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. Shew me a token for good ; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed : because thou, Lord, hast holpen me, and comforted me.-Ps. lxxxvi. 14.

Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.—Ps. cxx. 2.

Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man.-Ps. cxl. 1.

wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.-Ps. cxl. 4.

Mine eyes are unto thee, O God the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute. Keep me from the snares that they have laid for me, and from the gins of the workers of iniquity. - Ps. cxli. 8.

Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors ; for they are stronger than I. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name. -Ps. cxlii. 5.

Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children; whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood. -Ps. cxliv. 7.

Ah, Lord God! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.—Jer. iv. 10.

O Lord of hosts, that judgest righteously, that trieth the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.Jer. xi. 20.

Be not a terror unto me; thou art my hope in the day of evil. Let them be confounded that persecute me, but let not me be confounded : let them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed: bring upon them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.-Jer. xvii. 17.

O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh

For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me, and a derision daily. Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my

familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him. But the Lord is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail : they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper : their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten. But, O Lord of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them : for unto thee have I opened my cause. Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?--Jer. xx. 7, &c.

Hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry. O Lord, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.

Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me. Thou hast heard their reproach, O Lord, and all their imaginations against me. Render unto them a recompense, O Lord, according to the work of their hand.-Lam. iii. 56, 59.

O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things ?-Dan. xii. 8.

Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction. Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity : wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he ?-Habakkuk i. 12.

O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.—Matt. xxvi. 39.

Master, carest thou not that we perish ?- Mark iv. 38.

cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.—Mark xiv. 36; Luke xxii. 42.

Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.—Luke v. 8.

Master, master, we perish.-Luke viii. 24.

FOR HELP, HEARING, AND SALVATION. O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth ; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts : have respect therefore to the prayer

of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee.—2 Chron. vi. 14.

Arise ; for this matter belongeth unto thee.Ezra x. 4.

Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands -Neh. vi. 9.
