sighing; my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.-Ps. xxx. 10.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness; according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions, wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin, for I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only have I sinned and done this evil in thy sight; that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me: Behold thou desirest truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow; make me to hear joy and gladness, that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice; hide thy face from my sins and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with thy free spirit. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation; and my tongue

shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

O Lord, open thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice, else would I give it, thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.-Ps. li. 1—17.

If thou, Lord, shouldst mark iniquity, O Lord, who shall stand. But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.—Ps. cxxx. 3, 4.

Will he

O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself, it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. O Lord correct me but with judgment, not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.-Jer. x. 23.

Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke; turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the Lord my God. Surely after that I was turned,

I repented, and after that I was instructed I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.-Jer. xxxi. 18, 19.

The Lord is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandments. Behold, O Lord, for I am in distress, my bowels are troubled, mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled. My sighs are many and my heart is faint.-Lam. i. 18, 20, 22.

God be merciful to me a sinner.-Luke xviii. 13.

Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.-Luke xv. 18.

We are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath we are troubled, thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance; for all our days are passed away in thy wrath; we spend our years as a tale that is told; who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.-Ps. xc. 8, 9, 11.

O Lord though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake, for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee. O the hope of Israel, the Saviour thereof in
