and hear me; O Lord my God, lighten mine eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death, lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him, and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. -Ps. xii. 1, &c.

Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted; the troubles of my heart are enlarged, O bring thou me out of my distresses. Look upon mine affliction and my pain, and forgive all my sins. O keep my soul and deliver me; let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in thee; let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.-Ps. xxv. 16.

Hear, O Lord, when I ery with my voice; have mercy also upon me, and answer me.-Ps. xxvii. 7.

Be merciful unto me, O God; be merciful

unto me; for my soul trusteth in thee; yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.-Ps. lvii. 1.

Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary of my crying my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God. O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee. Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord God of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel. Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face. But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Lord, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation. Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink; let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Let not the water-flood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.-Ps. lxix. 1, &c.

Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak. I have consideredthe days of old, the years of ancient times. I

call to remembrance my song in the night. I commune with mine own heart, and my spirit made diligent search. Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? Is

his mercy clean gone for ever? Doth his promise fail for evermore? Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender

mercies?-Ps. lxxvii. 4.

Bow down thine ear, O Lord; hear me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my soul, for I am holy; O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee. Be merciful unto me, O Lord, for I cry unto thee daily. Rejoice the soul of thy servant for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For thou, Lord, art good and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.-Ps. lxxxvi. 1, &c.

Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; do thou for me, O God the Lord, for thy name's sake; because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me: for I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. Help me, O Lord my God, O save me according to thy mercy, that they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.-Ps. cix. 21, &c.

Unto thee do I lift up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens; behold as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress, so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until he have mercy upon us. Have mercy

upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us; for we are exceedingly filled with contempt, our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. —Ps. cxxiii. 1, &c.

Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us? We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.—Jonah i. 1.
