Let all those that seek thee be joyful and glad in thee let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.—Ps. xl. 16.

Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.-Ps. li. 11.

Let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.— Ps. lxviii. 3.

Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth. That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.-Ps. cviii. 5, 6.

Spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?—Joel ii. 17.

O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem, and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation ?—Zech. i. 12.

O Lord God of Israel, which dwellest between the Cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. Lord, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, Lord, thine eyes and see, and hear the words of which reproach the living God. Now, therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord God, even thou only.-2 Kings xix. 15.

O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased: O turn thyself to us again. Thou hast made the earth to tremble, thou hast broken it; heal the breaches thereof, for it shaketh: thou hast showed thy people hard things; thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment. Thou hast given a banner to them that feared thee, that it may be

displayed because of the truth. That thy beloved may be delivered, save with thy right hand, and hear me.-Ps. lx. 1—5.

INTERCESSIONS FOR THE CHURCH UNDER

PERSECUTION.

Hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray and hear thou in heaven, thy dwellingplace; and when thou hearest, forgive.

When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall turn again to thee and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee, then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sins of thy people Israel.-1 Kings viii. 30.

O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? Why doth thine anger burn against the sheep of thy pasture? Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this Mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt. Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs. O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? Why

withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? Pluck it out of thy bosom, for God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever. Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty. O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name. Arise, O God, plead thine own cause; remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.-Ps. lxxiv. 1-23.

O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance, thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth. We have become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us. How long, Lord? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire? Pour out thy wrath

upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name, for they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling-place.-Ps. lxxix. 1—7.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth: stir up thy strength, and come and save us. Turn us again,

O God, and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved. O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people. Thou feedest them with the bread of tears, and givest them tears to drink in great measure: thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours, and our enemies laugh among themselves. Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved. Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt; thou heathen and planted it.

before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land. The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars. She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river. Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her? The boar out of the woods doth
