waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it. Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts, look down from heaven, and behold and visit this vine, and the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself. It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance. Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself: so will not we go back from thee.-Ps. lxxx. 1—18.

Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? Hast thy soul lothed Zion? Why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, and there is no good: and for the time of healing, and behold trouble !-Jer. xiv. 19.

Ah Lord God! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem ?-Ezek. ix. 8.

O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain, because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. Now, therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy

face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake. O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name; for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.-Dan. ix. 16—19.

SCRIPTURE INTERCESSIONS FOR THE NATION.

Let not the anger of my Lord wax hot; thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief. -Exod. xxxii. 22.

Oh! this people have sinned a great sin, and

have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt, forgive their sin; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book, which thou hast written.-Exod. xxxii. 31, 32.

Blessed of the Lord be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath, and for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon, and for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills, and for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush.-Deut. xxxiii. 13-16.

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Return, O Lord, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants. O satisfy us early with thy mercy, that we may be glad and rejoice all our days. Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us; and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it. Ps. xc. 12, to the end.

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.-Luke xxiii. 34.

A MASTER FOR A SERVANT.

Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.-Luke vii. 6.

A SERVANT FOR A MASTER.

O Lord God of my master, I pray thee send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master.-Gen. xxiv. 12.

MINISTER FOR HIS CONGREGATION.

I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight; and consider that this is thy people. If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.-Exod. xxxiii. 13, 15, 16.

If now I have found grace in thy sight, O

Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us: for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.-Exod. xxxiv. 9.

Lord

Now, I beseech thee, let the power of my be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, The Lord is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people, according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven the iniquity of this people, from Egypt even until now.-Numb. xiv. 17, 18, 19.

O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?-Numb. xvi. 22.

The Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you.-Deut. i. 11.

O Lord God, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand. Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not upon the stubbornness of this people, nor to their
