LUKE I. 18-23.

AND Zach-a-ri-as said un-to the an-gel, "Where-by shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well strick-en in years." And the an-gel an-swer-ing, said un-to him, "I am Ga-bri-el, that stand in the pres-ence of God: I am sent to speak un-to thee, and to show thee these glad tid-ings. And, be-hold, thou shalt be dumb and not a-ble to speak, un-til the day that these things shall be perform-ed, be-cause thou be-liev-est not my words, which shall be fulfill-ed in their sea-son." And the peo-ple wait-ed for Zach-a-ri-as,

and mar-vel-led that he con-tin-ued so long in the tem-ple. And when he came out, he could not speak un-to them. And they perceiv-ed that he had seen a vi-sion in the tem-ple, for he beck-on-ed to them, and re-main-ed speechless. And it came to pass, that as soon as the days of his min-istra-tion were ac-com-plish-ed, he de-part-ed to his own house.

QUESTIONS.

Did Zacharias believe the angel?

No he doubted.

Who did the angel say he was?

Gabriel.

From whom did he come?

From God.

What did the angel say should happen to Zacharias for not believing?

He should be dumb and not able to speak. Why was he to be dumb?

Because he did not believe what the

angel told him.

Who waited for Zacharias?

The people.

What did they do?

They marvelled.

What is to marvel?

To wonder.

Why did they marvel?

Because Zacharias tarried so long in the

temple.

What do you mean by tarry?

To wait, or to stay.

Could he speak to them?

No he was dumb, or speechless.

Where did Zacharias go after he had served in the temple?

He departed to his own house.

Observe my dear children that Zacharias was punished for his want of faith; he did not believe that which was told him by the
