2. Behold! ye fast for | strife and debate,

And to smite with the fist of wickedness.

3. Wilt thou call this a fast,

And an acceptable day to JEHOVAH ?

4. Is not this the fast that | I have chosen?
To loose the bands of wickedness,

5. To undo the | heavy burdens,
'And to let the oppressed go free,
And that ye | break every yoke?

6. Then shalt thou call, and JEHOVAH shall answer;
Thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.

And like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

5. To whom will ye flee for help?

And where

will ye leave your glory?

6. Without me they shall | bow down under the prisoners, And they shall fall under the slain.

1. Who among you will give ear to this?

Who will hearken and hear for the time to come?

2. Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and | Israel to the robbers? Did not JEHOVAH, | he against whom we have sinned?

3. For they would not walk in his ways,

Neither were they obedient unto his law,

4. Therefore he hath poured upon him

The fury of his anger, and the strength of battle:

5. And it hath set him on fire around, yet he knew not: And it burned him, yet he | laid it not to heart.

That inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy;

We are in desolate places as the dead.
5. We roar all like bears,

And mourn sore like doves :

6. We look for judgment, but there is none! For salvation, but it is far off from us!
