For the Lord JEHOVIH will help me; Therefore shall I not be confounded: 2. Therefore have I set my face like a flint, And I know that I shall not be ashamed. 3. He is near that doth | justify me; [Is. 1. 7.] Who will contend with me? | let us stand together: 4. Who is mine adversary? Let him come near to me. 5. Behold! the Lord JE HOVIH will help me; Who is he that shall condemn me? 6. Lo! they all shall wax | old as a garment; The moth shall eat them up. SELECTION 304. [Is. lix. 12.] 1. For our transgressions are | multiplied before Thee, 2. For our transgressions are with us; 3. In transgressing and lying against JEHOVAH, 4. Speaking oppression | and revolt, [hood. Yea, truth doth fail; And he that departeth from evil | maketh himself a prey. 1. JEHOVAH is good, A strong hold in the | day of trouble; And he knoweth | them that trust in him. 2. But with an over running flood, He will make an utter end of the | place thereof; Affliction shall not rise up the second time. SELECTION 306. 1. Hear ye this, O | house of Jacob! Who are called by the name of Israel, [Is. xlviii.] And are come forth | out of the waters of Judah; 2. Who swear by the name of JEHOVAH, And make mention of the | GOD of Israel, But not in truth, nor in righteousness. 3. For they call themselves of the holy city, And stay themselves upon the | GOD of Israel; JEHOVAH of hosts is his name. 4. I have declared the former things | from the beginning; And they went out of my mouth, and I showed them; I did them suddenly, | and they came to pass. 5. O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments ' Then had thy peace been as a river, And thy righteousness as the waves of the sea. 6. Thy seed also had | been as the sand, And the offspring of thy bowels like the | gravel thereof; His name should not have been cut | off nor destroyed from before me. SELECTION 307. To proclaim the acceptable | year of JEHOVAH, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all that mourn; 4. To appoint unto them that | mourn in Zion; To give unto them | beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, 5. The garment of praise for the | spirit of heaviness; That they might be called trees of righteousness, The planting of JEHOVAH, that he might be glorified. 1. Remember, O JEHOVAH! What is | come upon us: Consider, and be hold our reproach. 2. Our inheritance is turned to strangers, Our houses to aliens. 3. We are orphans and fatherless, Our mothers are as widows. 4. We have drunken our | water for money; Our wood is sold unto us. 5. Our necks are under | persecution: We labor, and have no rest. 6. We have given the hand | to the Egyptians, To the Assyrians, to be | satisfied with bread. 7. Our fathers have | sinned, and are not; And we have borne their iniquities. 8. Servants have | ruled over us: There is none that doth deliver | out of their hand. SELECTION 310. 1. Behold! JEHOVAH'S | hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; 2. Neither his ear heavy, That it cannot hear: 3. But your injiquities have separated Between you and your GoD, 4. And your sins have hid his | face from you, That he will not hear. [Is. lix.] DOUBLE. 5. For your hands are de filed with blood, And your fingers | with iniquity; 6. Your lips have spoken lies, Your tongue hath | muttered perverseness. 7. None calleth for justice, Nor any pleadeth for truth: 8. They trust in vanity, and speak lies; They conceive mischief, and bring | forth iniquity. SELECTION 311. 1. They hatch | cockatrice' eggs, And weave the spider's web: 2. He that eateth of their eggs dieth, [Is. lix. 5.] And that which is crushed breaketh out | into a viper. 3. Their webs shall not become garments, Neither shall they cover themselves | with their works? 4. Their works are works of iniquity, And the act of violence is | in their hands. 5. Their feet | run to evil, And they make haste to shed | innocent blood: 6. Their thoughts are | thoughts of iniquity; Wasting and destruction are | in their paths. 7. The way of peace they know not; And there is no judgment | in their goings: 8. They have made them | crooked paths: Whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. 20 * |
