Purge me with hyssop, and I | shall be clean : Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 2. Make me to hear | joy and gladness; [Ps. li. 7.] That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 3. Hide thy | face from my sins, And blot out all mine iniquities. 4. Create in me a clean | heart, O GOD, 5. Cast me not away from thy face; 7. Then will I teach trans gressors thy ways; 8. Deliver me from the guilt of blood, O GOD, thou GOD of my salvation : My tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. 1. Judge me, | O JEHOVAH ; For I have walked in mine integrity: 2. I have trusted also | in JEHOVAH ; I therefore shall not slide. 3. Examine me, O JEHOVAH, and prove me; Try my reins and my heart. 4. For thy kindness is before mine eyes: And I have | walk-ed in thy truth. 5. I have not sat with vain persons, Neither will I go in with dissemblers. 6. I have hated the congregation of | evil-doers; And will not sit with the wicked. 7. I will wash mine | hands in innocence: So will I compass thine | altar, O JEHOVAH : 8. That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, And tell of all thy wondrous works. SELECTION 30. 1. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither | shall I flee from thy presence? 2. If I ascend up into | heaven, thou art there: [Ps. cxxxix. 7.] If I make my bed in | hell, behold, thou art there. 3. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 4. Even there thy | hand shall lead me, And thy right hand shall hold me. 5. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; 7. I will praise thee; For I am fearfully and wonderfully made: 8. Marvellous are thy works; And that my soul doth know right well. SELECTION 31. [Ps. cxxxix. 17.] 1. How precious are thy thoughts unto me, O GOD! 2. If I should count them, they are more in number | than the sand: When I a wake, I am still with thee. 3. Surely thou wilt slay the | wicked, O God : 4. For they speak against thee wickedly, And thine enemies take thy name in vain. 5. Do not I hate, O JEHOVAH, those that hate thee? And am I not grieved with those that rise up against thee? 6. I hate them with | perfect hatred: I reckon them mine enemies. 7. Search me, O GOD, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: 8. And see if there be any | wicked way in me, And lead me | in the way everlasting. 1. O GOD, why hast thou cast us | off forever? Doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture? 2. Remember thy | congregation, Which | thou hast purchased of old; 3. The rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; This mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt. 4. Have respect to the covenant: [of cruelty. For the dark places of the earth are full of the | habitations 5. O let not the oppressed return ashamed: Let the poor and | needy praise thy name. 6. Arise, O GOD, plead | thine own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. 7. Forget not the voice of thine enemies : The tumult of those that rise up against thee ascendeth continually. 1. Remember, O JEHOVAH, thy mercies and thy kindnesses For they are from everlasting. 2. Remember not the sins, Nor the transgressions of my youth. 3. According to thy mercy remember thou me, For thy goodness' sake, O JEHOVAH. 4. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; For I do wait on thee, 5. Redeem | Israel, O God, From out of all his troubles. [Dox. 5, p. 250.] SELECTION 34 [Ps. lxxx. 3.] 1. Restore us again, O GOD, And cause thy face to | shine, and we shall be saved. 2. O JEHOVAH, GOD of hosts, How long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people? 3. Thou makest them to eat the | bread of weeping; Thou makest them to drink the cup of tears. 4. Thou makest us a strife to our neighbors: And our enemies | laugh among themselves. 5. Restore us again, O GOD of hosts, And cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved. 6. So will not we go back from thee: Revive us, and we will | call upon thy name. SELECTION 35. 1. Have mercy up on me, O GOD, According to thy kindness: 2. According to the greatness of thy mercies, Blot thou out my transgressions. 3. Wash me thoroughly from | mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. 4. For I acknowledge | my transgressions: And my sin is ever before me. 5. Against thee, against thee only, | have I sinned And done evil in thy sight: 6. That thou mightst be justified in thy words, And be clear when thou judgest. [Ps. li.] |
