AN ACT in addition to an Act entitled, " An Act to divide the Com- Chap. 1. monwealth into Districts, for the choice of Representatives in the Congress of the United States, and prescribing the mode of election." SEC. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, That in every future election of Representatives in the Congress of the United States, it shall be the duty of the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Boston, and of the Selectmen of the several towns and districts within the Commonwealth, to transmit the sealed list of votes, required by the third section of the act to which this is in addition, to the sheriff of the county in which the election shall be held, within three days next after the day of such election; and the said sheriff shall transmit the same to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, within seven days thereafter; or the said Mayor and Aldermen or Selectmen may themselves transmit the same to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, within ten days after the day of such election.
