JEHOVAH is the mighty GoD,
The universal king.

2 He form'd the deeps unknown;
He gave the seas their bound;
The watʼry worlds are all his own,
And all the solid ground.

3 Come, worship at his throne;
Come, bow before the LORD:
We are his work, and not our own,
He form'd us by his word.

4 To-day attend his voice,
Nor dare provoke his rod :
Come, like the people of his choice,
And own your gracious GOD.

23. L.M. WATTS.

Praise to the Creator.

YE nations round the earth rejoice

Before the LORD, your sov'reign king; Serve him with cheerful heart and voice, With all your tongues his glory sing. 2 The LORD is GOD: 'tis he alone Doth life, and breath, and being give: We are his work, and not our own, The sheep that on his pastures live. 3 Enter his gates with songs of joy, With praises to his courts repair; And make it your divine employ To pay your thanks and honours there.

4 The LORD is good; the LORD is kind; Great is his grace,

And the whole race of man shall find
His truth from age to age endure.

24. L.M. WATTS.

A bymn of praise.

ING to the LORD with joyful voice;
Let every land his name adore :

Ye favour'd British isles! rejoice,

And sound his praise from shore to shore.
2 Nations, attend before his throne
With solemn fear, and sacred joy:
Know that the LORD is GOD alone;
He can create, and he destroy.

3 His pow'rful word, which all things made,
Gave life to clay, and form'd us men:
And when like wand'ring sheep we stray'd,
He brought us to his fold again.

4. We are the people of his care,

Our souls with all our mortal frame:
What lasting honours can we rear,
Almighty Maker to thy name?

5 We'll crow'd thy gates with thankful songs;
High as the heav'ns our voices raise;
And earth, with her ten thousand tongues,
Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise.
6 Wide as the world is thy command;
Vast as eternity thy love;

Firm as a rock thy truth must stand,
When rolling years shall cease to move.

GREA

25. C.M. KIPPIS.

To the unknown GOD.

REAT GOD! in vain man's narrow view Attempts to look thy nature through: Our lab'ring pow'rs with rev'rence own Thy glories never can be known. 2 Not the high seraph's mighty thought, Who countless years his GOD has sought, Such wondrous heighth or depth can find, Or fully trace thy boundless mind. 3 Yet LORD, thy kindness deigns to show Enough for mortal minds to know; While wisdom, goodness, pow'r divine, Thro' all thy works and conduct shine. 4 O! may our souls with rapture trace Thy works of nature and of grace; Explore thy sacred name, and still Press on to know and do thy will!

The ONE GOD.

ETERNAL GOD! almighty cause

Of earth, and seas, and worlds unknown! All things are subject to thy laws; All things depend on thee alone.

2 Thy glorious being singly stands,
Of all within itself possest;

By none control'd in thy commands,
And in thyself completely blest.
3 To thee, the One Supreme, we bow;
Let heav'n and earth due homage pay;

All

All other gods we disavow,

Reject their claims, renounce their sway. 4 Spread thy great name thro' every land; All idol deities dethrone:

1

Subdue the world to thy command,
And reign unrivall'd, God alone!

27. C. M. JERVIS.

The power and majesty of GOD.

TH' eternal GOD in thunder speaks,

And rends the vaulted sky;

While lightnings 'midst the awful gloom,
Declare JEHOVAH nigh.

2 The howling winds, the beating rain,
The sea's tumultuous roar-
These in tremendous concert join'd,
Proclaim his boundless pow'r.

3 He comes! all nature prostrate lies,
And trembles at his nod:
Earthquakes and dreadful storms announce
The presence of the GOD.

4 To celebrate his praise sublime,

While heav'n and earth combine;
Let man, in nobler strains, adore
His boundless pow'r divine.

5 Great GOD! the splendours of thy might Our awe and wonder raise :

Thy deeds of glory far surpass
Our loftiest hymns of praise.

6 Yet, LORD, in thine almighty arm

Secure thy servants trust,

'Midst all the clouds and storms of life, The refuge of the just.

28. L.M. POPE'S COLLECTION.

YE

The majesty and glory of God.

sons of men! in sacred lays
Attempt your great Creator's praise:
But who an equal song can frame?
What verse can reach the lofty theme?
2 He sits enthron'd amidst the spheres,
And glory like a garment wears;
His boundless wisdom, pow'r, and grace,
Command our awe, transcend our praise.
3 Before his throne a shining band
Of cherubs and of seraphs stand;
Ethereal spirits, who in flight
Outstrip the rapid speed of light.
4 To GOD all nature owes its birth,
He form'd this pond'rous globe of earth;
He rais'd the glorious arch on high,
And measur'd out the azure sky.

5 In all our maker's grand designs,
Omnipotence with wisdom shines;
His works, thro' all this wondrous frame,
Bear the great impress of his name.
6 Rais'd on devotion's lofty wing,
His high perfections let us sing;
O let his praise employ our tongue,
Whilst list'ning worlds applaud the song!
