EVENING PRAYER.

EIGHTH SERVICE.

Let the Minifter introduce the Service by reading the following Sentences; the Congregation rifing up.

GOD is a spirit, and they who worship

him acceptably must worship him in spirit and in truth.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present yourselves a living facrifice wholly acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

People.

Bleffed are they who keep his ftatutes, and who feek him with their whole hearts.

The Introductory Prayer; the People kneeling.

INFINITELY glorious and ever blessed Lord our God, we thine unworthy fervants defire at this time to offer unto thee our united fupplications and thanksgivings, encouraged by thy great goodness manifested unto us in the gospel of thy son Jefus Christ. May we remember thee, our creator, preferver, and benefactor, with holy fear, love, and gratitude, and may we worship thee who art a Spirit in fpirit and in truth; that our various fervices may be acceptable in thy fight, and truly beneficial to our own fouls. Difpofe us to attend to the reading of thy word, as the dictates of divine wisdom, for our religious improvement and eternal falvation. May we give thanks unto thee with gratitude and devotion; confefs our fins with fincere repentance, and hear what shall be delivered for our inftruction with attention, candour, and self-application. Thus may

we

we become wifer and better, be gradually trained up for thine heavenly kingdom, and at last be admitted to that happiness which thou haft gracioufly promifed to all thy faithful fervants, through our Lord Jefus Chrift. Amen.

Then let the following Act of Adoration be recited by the Minifter and People alternately, the Congregation ftanding,

Minifter.

WE praife thee, O God; we acknow

ledge thee to be the Lord.

People.

We blefs and praise thy glorious name, and thankfully own thy never failing mercy.

Minifter.

We gratefully admire and adore thine infinite wisdom, power, and goodness, O most holy Lord God omnipotent.

Day by day will we worship thee, the everlafting Father.

Minifter.

Glory be unto thee, O God, the creator, preferver, and fupporter of all; the fupreme governor and righteous judge of all

the earth.

People.

Glory and adoration, praise and thanksgiving, be unto thee, O God, the fovereign Lord of all beings.

Minifter.

The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory and majefty, O God, who fillest all places with thy prefence.

People.

Thou art a God at hand, and not a God afar off; none can hide himself in fecret places, that thou canst not fee him.

Minifter.
