David's charge to Soloman.

Adonijah put to death. 293 18 And Bathfbeba faid, Well; I will fpeak for thee unto the king.

Chap. j. mayeft profper in all that thou doest, and whitherfoever thou turneft thyself:

4 That the LORD may continue his word which he fpake concerning me, faying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their foul, there shall not fail thee, faid he, a man on the throne of Ifrael.

5 Moreover, thou knoweft alfo what Joab the fon of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hofts of Ifrael, unto Abner the fon of Ner, and unto A mafa the fon of Jether, whom he flew, and fhed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his thoes that were on his feet.

19 Baththeba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adoni jah. And the king rofe up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and fat down on his throne, and caused a feat to be fet for the king's mother; and the fat on his right hand.

20 Then the faid, I defire one fmall pe tition of thee; I pray thee, fay me not nay. And the king faid unto her, Afk on, my mother: for I will not fay thee nay. 21 And the laid. Let Abifhag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy broth, er to wife.

22 And king Solomon anfwered, and faid unto his mother, And, Why doit thou 6 Do therefore according to thy wif-afk Abihag the Shunammite for Adoni dom, and let not his hoar head go down jah? Ak for him the kingdom alio; for to the grave in peace. 23 Then king Solomon fware by the LORD, faying, God do fo to me, and more alfo, if Adonijah have not spokea this word againft his own life.

8 And, behold, thou baft with thee Shimei the fon of Gera, a Benjamite of Ba- 24 Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, hurim, which curfed me with a grievous which hath established me, and fet me on curfe in the day when I went to Maha-the throne of David my father, and who naim: but he came down to meet me at hath made me an houfe as he promifed, Jordan, and I fware to him by the LORD, Adonijah fhall be put to death this day. faying, I will not put thee to death with 25 And king Solomon fent by the hand the fword. of Benaiah the fon of Jehoiada; and he 9 Now, therefore, hold him not guilt-fell upon him that he died. lefs: for thou art a wife man, and know- 26 And unto Abiathar the priest faid eft what thou oughteft to do unto him; but his hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood.

10 So David flept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

11 And the days that David reigned over Ifrael were forty years: feven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerufalem.

12 Then fat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was eftablished greatly.

13 ¶ And Adonijah the fon of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And he said, Comeft thou peaceably? And he faid, Peaceably.

14 He faid moreover, I have somewhat to fay unto thee. And the faid, Say on. 15 And he faid, Thou knoweft that the kingdom was mine, and that all Ifracl fet their faces on me, that I should reign : how beit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: for it was his from the LORD.

the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death; but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou bareft the ark of the LORD God before David my father, and because thou haft been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.

27 So Solomon thruft out Abiathar from being prieft unto the LORD; that he might fulfil the word of the LORD, which he fpake concerningthe houfe of Eli inShiloh.

28 Then tidings came to Joab: for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not after Abfalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD, and Caught hold on the horns of the altar.

29 And it was told king Solomon that Joab was fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD; and, behold, be is by the altar. Then Solomon fent Benaiah the fon of Jehoiada, faying, Go, fall upon him.

SO And Benajah came to the tabernacle of the LORD, and faid unto him, Thus faith the king, Come forth. And he faid, 16 And now I afk one petition of thee,de- Nay, but I will die here. And Benaiah ny me not. And the faid unto him, Say on. brought the king word again, faying, Thus 17 And he said, Speak, I pray thee,un-faid Joab, and thus he anfwered me to Solomon the king, (for he will not fay thee nay) that he give me Abifhag the Shupaininite to wife.

31 And the king faid unto him, Do as he hath faid, and fall upon him and bury him; that thou mayeft take away the

32 And the LORD fhall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and flew them with the fword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit, Abner the fon of Ner, captain of the host of Ifrael, and Amafa the fon of Jether, cap-1 tain of the host of Judah.

33 Their blood hall therefore return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his feed for ever: but upon David, and upon his feed, and upon his houfe, and upon his throne, fhall there be peace for ever from the LORD.

31 So Benaiah the fon of Jehoiada went up, and fell upon him, and flew him: and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

55 And the king put Benaiah the fon of Jehoiada in his room over the hoft and Zadok the prieft did the king put in room of Abiathar.

36 And the king fent and called for Shimei, and faid unto him, Build thee an houfe in Jerufalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any whither.

37 For it shall be, that on the day thou goeft out, and paffeft over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt furely die; thy blood thall be upon thine own head.

38 And Shimei faid unto the king, The faying is good: as my lord the king hath faid, fo will thy fervant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerufalem many days.

89 And it came to pafs at the end of three years, that two of the fervants of Shimei ran away unto Achim, fon of Maachah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei, faying, Behold, thy fervants be in Gath. 40 And Shimei arofe, and faddled his afs, and went to Gath to Achish to feek his fervants: and Shimei went, and brought his fervants from Gath.

41 And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerufalem to Gath, and was come again.

Salomon's petition?

46 So the king commanded Benaiah, the fon of Jehoiada; which went out and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon. СНАР. II.

Salomon marrieth Pharaoh's daughter. 5 His choice. 16 His judgment be-tween the two harlots.

AND Solemon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own houfe, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerufalem round about.

2 Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no houfe built unto the name of the LORD, until thofe days. 8 And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the ftatutes of David his father: only he facrificed and burned incenfe in high places.

And the king went to Gibeon to facrifice there; for that was the great high place a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God faid, Ask what I shall give thee.

6 And Solomon faid, Thou haft fhewed unto thy fervant David my father great mercy according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteoufnefs, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou haft kept for him this great kindness, that thou haft given him a fon to fit on his throne, as it is this day.

7 And now, O LORD my God, thou haftmade thy fervant kinginffead of David my father and I am but a little child : I know not how to go out or come in.

And thou faidft unto me, The word that I have heard is good.

48 Why then haft thou not kept the oath of the LORD, and the commandment that I have charged thee with?

44 The king faid moreover to Shimei, Thou knoweft all the wickednefs which thine heart is privy to, that thou didit to David my father: therefore the LORD fhall return thy wickedhiefs upon thine on head:

10 And the fpeech pleafed the LORD, that Solomon had afked this thing.

SO king Solomon was king over all

2 And thefe were the princes which he had; Azariah the fon of Zadok the priest, 15 And Solomon awoke ; and, behold, 3 Elihoreph and Ahiah, the fons of it was a dream. And he came to Jerufa- Shitha, fcribes; Jehoshaphat the fon of lem, and ftood before the ark of the cov-Ahild, the recorder. enant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feaft to all his fervants.

16¶ Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

17 And the one woman faid, O my Jord, I and this woman dwell in one houfe; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

18 And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered alfo: and we were together; there was no Granger with us in the houfe, fave we two in the houfe.

19 And this woman's child died in the night: because the overlaid it.

4 And Benaiah the fon of Jehoiada was over the hoft and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests:

5 And Azariah the fon of Nathan was over the officers and Zabud the son of Nathan was principal officer, and the king's friend :

6 And Ahihar was over the household: and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the tribute.

7¶ And Solomon had twelve officers over all Ifrael, which provided victuals for the king and his household; each man his month in a year made provision.

And they brought a fword be-ies with walls and brazen bars: fore the king.

25 And the king faid, divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

26 Then fpake the woman whofe the living child was, unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her fon, and fhe faid, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wife lay it. But the other faid, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it. 27 Then the king anfwered and faid, Give her the living child, and in no wife flay it: fhe is the mother thereof.

12 Ahinadab the son of Iddo had Mahanaim:

15 Ahimaaz was in Naphtali; he also took Bafmath the daughter of Solomon to wife :

244 For he had dominion over all the region on this fide the river, from Tiphfah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this fide the river: and he had peace on all fides round about him.

25 And Judah and Ifrael dwelt fafely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

26 And Solomon had torty thousand ftalls of hortes for his chariots, and twelve thousand horfemen.

27 And thote officers provided victuals for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon's table, every man in his month they lacked nothing.

28 Barley alfo and straw for the horfes and dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.

29 ¶ And God gave Solomon wifdom and understanding exceeding much, and argenels of heart, even as the fand that is on the fea fhore.

30 And Solomon's wifdom excelled the wildom of all the children of the eaft country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.

4 But now the LORD my God hath given me reft on every fide, fo that there is neither adverfary nor evil occurrent.

5 And. behold, I purpofe to build an houfe unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD fpake unto David my fa ther, faying, Thy fon, whom I will fet upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

6 Now, therefore, command thou that they bew me cedar trees out of Lebanon ; and my fervants fhall be with thy fervants; and unto thee will I give hire for thy fervants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

33 And he fpake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyffop that fpringeth out of the wall: he fpake alfo of beafts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.

S4 And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Soloinon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wifdom. CHAP. V.

11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thoufand meatures of wheat for food to household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon' to Hiram year by year.

12 And the LORD gave Solomon wifdom, as he promifed him and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
