21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, faying, I will thake the heavens and the earth;

that ride in them; and the horses and their riders fhall come down, every one by the fword of his brother.

23 In that day, faith the LORD of hofts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my fervant,the fon of Shealtiel, faith the LORD, and will make thee as a fignet : for I have chosen thee, faith the LORD of hofts.

CHAP. I.

1 Zechariah exhorteth to repentance. 7

IN the eighth month, in the second year
of Darius, came the word of the LORD
unto Zechariah the son of Barachiah, the
fon of Iddo the prophet, faying,

2 The LORD hath been fore displeased with your fathers.

8 Therefore fay thou unto them, Thus faith the LORD of hofts, Turn ye unto me, faith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, faith the LORD of hosts 4 Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, faying, Thus faith the LORD of hosts, Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, faith the LORD.

5 Your fathers, Where are they? and the prophets, Do they live forever?

through the earth, and, behold, all the earth litteth ftill, and is at reft,

12¶Then the angel of the LORD anfwered and faid, O LORD of hosts, How long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerufalem, and on the cities of Judah, againft which thou haft had indignation thefe threefcore and ten years?

13 And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words, and comfortable words.

14 So the angel that communed with mae, faid unto me, Cry thou, faying, Thus faith the LORD of hofts, I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little difpleased, and they helped forward the affliction.

16 Therefore, thus faith the LORD, I am returned to Jerufalem with mercies: my houfe thall be built in it, faith the LORD of hofts, and a line shall be ftretchupon Jerufalem. ed forth

6 But my words and my (tatutes, which I commanded my fervants the prophets, Did they not take hold of your fathers 17 Cry yet,faying, Thus faith the LORD and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us ac-of holts. 8 I faw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he ftood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horfes, fpeckled and white.

9 Then faid I. O my lord, What are thefe And the angel that talked with me, faid unto me, I will fhew thee what these be.

10 And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and faid, Thefe are they whom the LORD hath fent to walk to and fro through the earth.

11 And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrile trees, and faid, We have walked to and fro

19 And I faid unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, Thefe are the horns which have fcattered Judah, Ifrael, and Jerufalem. 20 And the LORD fhewed me four carpenters.

21 Then faid I, What come these to do? And he fpake, faying, Thefe are the horns which have fcattered Judah, fo that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to caft out the horns of the Gentiles; which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it. CHAP. Ik.

5 For I, faith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midft of her.

6 Ho, ho, come forib, and flee from the land of the north, faith the LORD for I have fpread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, faith the LORD.

7 Deliver thy felf, O Zion, that dwelleft with the daughter of Babylon.

7 Thus faith the LORD of hosts, If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt alfo judge my houfe, and fhalt alfo keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that ftand by.

8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that fit before thee for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my fervant the BRANCH.

9 For, behold, the ftone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one ftone ball be feven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, faith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

CHAP. IV.

By the golden candlestick, is forefbew the good fuccefs of Zerubbabel's foundation. 11 By the two olive trees, the two anointed ones.

AND the angel that talked with me

10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zi-came again, and waked me, as a man that on: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in is wakened out of his fleep, the midst of thee, faith the LORD.

11 And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and thall be my people and I will dwell in the midft of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hofts hath fent me unto thee.

12 And the LORD hall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerufalem again.

2 And faid unto me, What feest thou? And I faid, I have looked, and, behold, a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his feven lamps thereon, and feven pipes to the feven lamps, which are upon the top thereof.

8 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right fide of the bowl, and the other upon the left fide thereof."

4 So I anfwered and fpake to the angel

13 Be filent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raifed up out of his ho-that talked with me, faying, What are ly habitation

CHAP. III. Under the type of Joshua, the refloration of the church is promifed.

AND he fhewed me Joshua the high prielt ftanding before the angel of the LORD, and Satan ftanding at his right hand to refift him.

2 And the LORD faid unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that bath chofen Jerufalem rebuke thee: Is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and ftood before the angel.

4 And he anfwered and fpake unto thofe that stood before him, faying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he faid, Behold, I have caufed thine iniquity to pafs from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

5 Then the angel that talked with me anfwered and faid unto me, Knowest thou not what thefe be? And I faid, No, my lord.

Then he anfwered and fpake unto me, faying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, faying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my fpirit, faith the LORD of hosts.

7 Who are thou, O great mountain ? Before Zerubbabel thou foalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headtone thereof with houtings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

8 Moreover, the word of the LORD came unto me, faying,

9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this houfe; his hands fhall alfo finish it; and thou halt know that the LORD of hosts hath fent me un

CHAP. V.

1 By the flying roll is fhewed the curfe of thieves and wearers. 5 Babylon's ruin THEN I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, a flying roll.

2 And he faid unto me, What feeft thout And I answered, I fee a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.

3 Then faid he unto me, This is the curfe that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that ftealeth shall be cut off as on this fide according to it; and every one that fweareth fhall be cut off as on that fide according to it. I will bring it forth, faith the LORD of hofts, and it thall enter into the houfe of the thief, and into the houfe of him that fweareth falfely by my name and it ball remain in the midst of his houfe, and shall confume it with the timber thereof and the ftones thereof.

5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and faid unto me, Lilt up now thine eyes, and fee what is this that goeth forth.

6 And I faid, What is it? And he faid, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He faid moreover, This is their refemblance through all the earth.

7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that fitteth in the midft of the ephah.

8 And he faid, This is wickednefs. And he caft it into the midst of the ephah; and he caft the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

2 In the first chariot were red horfes; and in the fecond chariot black horfes;

3 And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grifled and bay horfes.

4 Then I answered and faid unto the angel that talked with me, What are thefe, my lord?

5 And the angel anfwered and faid unto me, Thefe are the four fpirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the LORD of all the earth.

6 The black horfes which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grifled go forth toward the fouth country.

7 And the bay went forth, and fought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth and he faid, Get ye hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.

8 Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, faying, Behold, thefe that go toward the north country have quieted my fpirit in the north country.

9 And the word of the LORD came unto me, faying,

10 Take of them of the captivity, ever of Heldai, of Tobijalt, and of sedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the fame day, and go into the houfe of Jofiah the fon of Zephaniah;

11 Then take filver and gold, and make crowns, and fet them upon the head of Joshua the fon of Jofedech, the high priest:

12 And speak unto him, faying, Thus fpeaketh the LORD of hosts, faying, Behold the man whofe name is The BRANCH: and he hall grow up out of his place, and he hall build the temple of the LORD:

13 Even he fhall build the temple of the LORD; and he hall bear the glory, and fhall fit and rule upon his throne; and he fhall be a priest upon his throne: and the counfel of peace shall be between

9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a fork and they lifted up the ephah be-them both. tween the earth and the heaven.

10 Then fid I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do thefe bear the ephah?

11 And he, faid unto me, To build it an houfe in the land of Shinar: and it

AND it came to pafs in the fourth year of king Darius,tbar the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chifleu;

2 When they had fent unto the houfe of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,

3 And to speak unto the pricfts which were in the house of the LORD of hofts, and to the prophets, faying, Should I weep in the fifth month, feparating my felf, as I have done these fo many years?

Then came the word of the LORD of hofts unto me, faying,

5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, faying, When ye fatted and mourned in the fifth and feventh montb, even thofe feventy years, Did ye at all faft unto me, even to me?

6 And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, Did not ye ear for yourjelves, and drink for yourjelves?

7 Should ye not bear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerufalem was inhabited and in profperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the fouth and the plain?

8 And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, faying,

9 Thus fpeaketh the Lord of hofts, faying, Execute true judgment, and thew mercy and compaflions every man to his brother:

10 And opprefs not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

11 But they refufed to hearken, and pulled away the fhoulder, and ftopped their ears, that they fhould not hear."

12 Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant ftone, left they thould hear the law, and the words winch the LORD of hofts hath fent in his fpirit by the former prophets therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hofts.

CHAP. VIII. Ferufalem's reforation. 9 Encouragement to build the temple,byGod's fa¶»m®, AGAIN the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,

2 Thus faith the LORD of hofts, 1 was jealous for Zion with great jealoufy, and was jealous for her with great fury. 3 Thus faith the LORD, I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midft of Jerufalem; and Jerufalem shall be called A City of Truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts The holy mountain.

4 Thus faith the LORD of hosts, There thall yet old men and old wonen dwell in the streets of Jerufalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.

5 And the streets of the city fhall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

6 Thus faith the LORD of hosts, If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in thefe days, Should it alfo be marvellous in mine eyes faith the LORD of hosts.

7 Thus faith the LORD of hofts, Behold, I will fave my people from the caft country, and from the well country;

8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midit of Jerufalem: and they hall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteoufnefs.

9 Thus faith the LORD of hosts, Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in thefe days thefe words by themouthoftheproph ets, which were in the day that the foun dation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.

10 For before thefe days there was no hire for man nor any hire for beast ; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in becaufe of the afAiction: for I fet all men every one againft his neighbour.

11 But now I will not be unto the refi due of this people as in the former days, faith the LORD of hosts.

12 For the feed shall be profperous; the vine thall give her fruit, and the ground fhall give her increase, and the heavens ball give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to pofless all these things.

18 And the word of the LORD of hofts came unto me, faying,

19 Thus faith the LORD of hofts, The faft of the fourth month, and the faft of the fifth, and the faft of the feventh, and the faft of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladnefs, and cheerful feafts; therefore love the truth and peace. 20 Thus faith the LORD of hosts, It ball yet come to pafs, that there fhall come people, and the inhabitants of many cit

ies :

21 And the inhabitants of one city hall go to another, saying, Let us go fpeedily to pray before the LORD, and to feek the LORD of hosts: I will go alfo.

22 Yea, many people and ftrong nations fhall come to feek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray_before the LORD.

23 Thus faith the LORD of hofts, In thofe days it fall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even fhall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, faying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; hout, O daughter of Jerufalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just,and having falvation; lowly, and riding upon an afs, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

10 And I will cut off the chariot_from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerufalem, and the battle bow fhall be cut off; and he shall fpeak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion fall be from fea, even to fea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.

11 As for thee alfo,by the blood of thy Covenant I have fent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.

12 Turn ye to the ftrong hold, ye prif. oners of hope even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee;

15 When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and railed up thy sons, O Zion, against thy fons, O Greece, and made thee as the fword of a mighty man.

14 And the LORD fhall be feen over them, and his arrow fhall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and fhall go with whirlwinds of the fouth.
