to the feven churcbest looking for the mercy of our Lord Jefus 24 Now unto him that is able to keep Chrift unto eternal life. you from falling, and to prefent you fault. 22 And of fome have compaffion, mak-lefs before the prefence of his glory with exceeding joy,

ing a difference.

23 And others fave with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

25 To the only wife God our Saviour, be glory and majefty, dominion and pow ler, both now and ever. Amen.

THE REVELATION OF ST. JOHN THE DIVINE.

CHAP. I.

John writeth his revelation to the ferven churches of Afia, fignified by the Jeven candlesticks. 1 The coming of Chrift. THE Revelation of Jefus Chrift, which God gave unto him, to fhew unto his fervants things which mutt fhortly come to pafs; and he fent and fignified it by his angel unto his fervant John :

2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the teftimony of Jefus Chrift, and of all things that he faw.

8 Bleifed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein for the time is at hand.

4¶ JOHN to the seven churches which are in Afia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the feven Spirits which are before his throne;

18 And in the midst of the feven_candlefticks one like unto the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as fnow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

15 And his feet like unto fine brafs, as if they burned in a furnace and his voice as the found of many waters.

16 And he had in his right hand feven ftars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged fword: and his countenance was as the fun fhineth in his ftrength.

17 And when I faw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, faying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the laft :

18 Iam he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; And from Jefus Chrift, who is the and have the keys of hell and of death. faithful witnefs, and the first begotten of 19 Write the things which thou haft the dead, and the prince of the kings of feen, and the things which are, and the the earth. 20 The mystery of the leven ftars which thou faweft in my right band, and the feven golden candlesticks. The feven ftars are the angels of the feven churches: and the feven candlesticks which thou faweft are the feven churches.

CHAP. II.

1 What is commanded to be written to the angels, (that is, the minifters,) of the churches of 1 Ephefus, & Smyrna, 12 Pergamos, 18 Thyatira, c. UNTO the angel of the church of 91 John, who alfo am your brother, Ephefus write; These things faith he and companion in tribulation, and in that holdeth the seven stars in his right the kingdom and patience of Jefus Chrift, hand, who walketh in the midst of the was in the idle that is called Patmos, for seven golden candlesticks ; the word of God and for the teftimony of Jefus Christ.

10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou cantt not bear them which are evil and thou haft tried them which fay they are apoftles, and are not, and haft found them liars:

11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the laft: and, What thou feeft, write in a book, and fend it unto the feven, and haft not fainted ; churches which are in Afia; unto Ephe-! fus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

S And haf borne, and haft patience, and for my name's fake haft laboured,

12 And I turned to fee the voice that fpake with me. And being turned, I faw feven golden candlesticks;

▲ Nevertheless, I have somewhat against thee, because thou haft left thy first love.

5 Remember theretore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or elte I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

6 But this thou haft, that thou hateft the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which lalfo hate. 7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit faith unto the churches To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midit of the paradife of God.

8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write: Thefe things faith the first and the laft, which was dead, and is alive; 9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich,) and 1 know the blafphemy of them which fay they are Jews, and are not, but are the fynagogue of Satan.

10 Fear none of thofe things which thou shalt fuffer: behold, the devil fhall calt fome of you into prifon, that ye may be tried, and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit faith unto the churches; He that overcometh thall not be hurt of the fecond death.

12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; Thefe things faith he which hath the harp fwordwithtwo edges;

21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and the repented not. 22 Behold, I will caft her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches thall know that I am he which fearcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

24 But no you I fay, and unto the reft in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they peak, I will put upon you none other burden.

25 But that which ye have already, hold faft till I come.

26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

27 And he hall rule them with a rod of iron; as the veffels of a potter thall they be broken to thivers: even as I received of my Father.

28 And I will give him the morningstar. 29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit faith unto the churches. CHAP. III.

13 I know. thy works, and where thou dwellett, even where Satan's feat is: and thou holdeft fast my name,and haft not denied my faith, even in thofe days, wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was AND unto the angel of the church in flain among you, where Satan dwelleth. 4 Thou haft a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they all walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

74 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things faith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man hutteth; and hutteth, and no man openeth:

2 And immediately I was in the fpint: and, behold, a throne was fet in heaves, and one fat on the throne.

10 The four and twenty elders fail down before him that fat on the throne, and wor thip him that liveth for ever and ever, and calt their crowns before the throne, saying,

11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honour, and power: tor thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. CHAP. V.

18 I counfel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayelt be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayeti be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakednefs do not appear; and anoint_thine eyes with eyefalve that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chaf-1. The book seated with fewer feals; § ten be zealous therefore, and repent.

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will fup with him, and he with me.

which only the Lamb is worthy to open. AND I faw in the right hand of him that fat on the throne, a book written within and on the backside, scaled with feven feals.

2 Andi faw a ftrong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to oper the bock, and to loose the feals thereof

8 And no man in heaves, nor in earth. neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon

8 And when he had taken the book,the four beafts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden viais full of odours, which are the prayers of faints. 9 And they fung a new fong, faying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the feals thereof; for thou waft flain, and haft redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10 And halt made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. 11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, and the beats and the elders and the number of themwas tenthousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was flain to receive pow er, and riches, and wifdom, and ftrength, and honour, and glory, and bleffing.

7 And when he had opened the fourth feal, I heard the voice of the fourth beaft fay, Come and fee.

8 And I looked, and, behold, a pale horfe and his name that fat on him was Death, and hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with fword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beafts of the earth.

9 And when he had opened the fifth feal, I faw under the altar the fouls of them that were flain for the word of God, and for the teftimony which they held :

10 And they cried with a loud voice, faying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dolt thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth ?

11 And white robes were given unto every one of them and it was faid unte them, that they should reft yet for a little feafon, until their fellow fervants alfo, and their brethren that should be killed as they were, fhould be fulfilled.

12 And I beheld when he had opened the fixth feal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the fun became black as fackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood:

CHAP. VI.

The opening of the feals in order, and what followed thereupon.

AND I faw when the Lamb opened one of the feals, and I heard, as it were the noife of thunder,one of the four beafts, faying, Come and fee.

2 And I faw,and, behold, a white horfe; and he that fat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering and to conquer.

14 And the heaven departed as a fcroil when it is rolled together; and every mountain and ifland were moved out of their places.

15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every freeman, hid themfelves in the dens, and in the rocks of the mountains;

16 And faid to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that fitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and, Who fhall be able to ftand ? CHAP. VII.

An angel fealeth the fervants of God in their forebeads. The number of them that were fealed; of all nations an innumerable muln ude.

10 And cried with a loud voice, faying, Salvation to our God which fitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb,

11 And all the angels flood round a bout the throne, and about the elders and the four beafts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worthipped God,

9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the fea,andhadlife,died and the third part of the hips were destroyed.

10 And the third angel founded, and there feil a great star from heaven, burn. ing as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

11 And the name of theflariscalled Wormwood: and the third part of the waters be 12 Saying, Amen: Bleffing, and glory, came wormwood; and many men djed of and wifdom, and thankfgiving, and hon-the waters, becaufe they were made bitter. our, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. 18 And one of the eldersanfwered, faying unto me, Whatare thefe which are arrayed in white robes? And, Whence came they

14 And I faid unto him, Sir, thou knoweft. And he faid to me, Thefe are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and ferve him day and night in his temple and he that fitteth on the throne fhall dwell among them.

16 They hall hunger no more, neither thirit any more, neither faall the fun light, on them, nor any heat.

17 For the Lamb which is in the midft of the throne fhall feed them, and thall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God hall wipe away all tearsfromtheireyes. CHAP. VIII.

At the opening of the feventh feal, 2 feven angels received feven trumpers. AND when he had opened the feventh feal, there was filence in heaven about the fpace of half an hour.

12 And the fourth angel founded, and the third part of thefunwastmitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewife.

15 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midft of heaven, faying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth, by realon of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels which are yet to found! CHAP. IX.

AND the fifth angel founded, and i faw a ftar fall from heaven unto the earth and to him was given the key of the bottomlefs pit.

2 And he opened the bottomlefs pit; and there arofe a fmoke out of the pit, as the fmoke of a great furnace; and the fun and the air were darkened by realua of the fmoke of the pit.
