AFFLICTION.

...The Lord hath heard thy affliction.-Gen. xvi. 11. ...Fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.-Gen. xxi. 17.

And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry...I know their sorrows.—Ex. iii. 7. ...And when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon. their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.-Ex. iv. 31.

And when we cried unto the Lord God of our fathers, the Lord heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression. -Deut. xxvi. 7.

The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms... Deut. xxxiii. 27.

It may be that the Lord will look on mine affliction, and that the Lord will requite me good... 2 Sam. xvi. 12.

In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried

to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.—2 Sam. xxii. 7.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.—

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.-Ps. xlvi. 1.

Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.-2.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.-7.

And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.-Ps. 1. 15. For he hath delivered me out of all trouble-Ps. liv. 7.

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.-Ps. lv. 22.

...In the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.-Ps. lvii. 1.

My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.-Ps. lxii. 5.

He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.—Ps. lxii. 6. ...The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.-7.

...God is a refuge for us.-8.

Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.-Ps. lxiii. 7.

Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.-Ps. lxxi. 20. Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.-21.

In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.-Ps. lxxxvi. 7.
