COMFORT AND SUPPORT IN

AFFLICTION.

...The Lord hath heard thy affliction.-Gen. xvi. 11. ...Fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.-Gen. xxi. 17.

And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry...I know their sorrows.—Ex. iii. 7. ...And when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon. their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.-Ex. iv. 31.

And when we cried unto the Lord God of our fathers, the Lord heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression. -Deut. xxvi. 7.

The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms... Deut. xxxiii. 27.

It may be that the Lord will look on mine affliction, and that the Lord will requite me good... 2 Sam. xvi. 12.

In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried

to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.—2 Sam. xxii. 7.

They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.-19.

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth : therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty-Job v. 17.

For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.-18.

He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.-19.

...Thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away.—Job xi. 16.

Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God.-Ps. iii. 2.

But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.—3.

I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.-4.

The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.-Ps. ix. 9.

I have set the Lord always before me because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.-Ps. xvi. 8. For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. -Ps. xxii. 24.

...I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.—Ps. xxiii. 4.

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.-Ps. xxx. 5.

...Thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities.-Ps. xxxi. 7.

Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shall compass me about with songs of deliverance.-Ps. xxxii. 7.

Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield.-Ps. xxxiii. 20.

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him out of all his troubles.-Ps. xxxiv. 6.

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.-17.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart...18.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.-19.

He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.-Ps. xxxiv. 20.

The salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.-Ps. xxxvii. 39. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them...40. I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.-—Ps. xl. 1.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.—

Ps. xlii. 5.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.-Ps. xlvi. 1.

Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.-2.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.-7.

And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.-Ps. 1. 15. For he hath delivered me out of all trouble-Ps. liv. 7.

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.-Ps. lv. 22.

...In the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.-Ps. lvii. 1.

My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.-Ps. lxii. 5.

He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.—Ps. lxii. 6. ...The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.-7.

...God is a refuge for us.-8.

Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.-Ps. lxiii. 7.

Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.-Ps. lxxi. 20. Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.-21.

In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.-Ps. lxxxvi. 7.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble.-Ps. xci. 15.

Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord...Ps. xciv. 12.

That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity...13.

Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.-17.
