THE WICKEDNESS

OF INGRATITUDE TO GOD.

Because thou servedst not the Lord thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;-Deut. xxviii. 47.

Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the Lord shall send against thee...48.

Do ye thus requite the Lord, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee? -Deut. xxxii. 6.

...He forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.-15.

Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.-18.

And the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side.-Judg. viii. 34.

Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites ?...Judg. x. 11.

Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.-13.

Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen ; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.-Judg. x. 14.

...Ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations...1 Sam. x. 19.

None saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;-Job xxxv. 10.

Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven ?-11.

They (the children of Ephraim) kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; -Ps. lxxviii. 10.

And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.-11,

He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.-15.

And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.-17.

Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness ?-19.

Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?-20.

Therefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth...21. Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation.-22.

They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt.-Ps. cvi. 21.

Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word.-Ps. cvi. 24.

Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions...29.

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.-Isa. i. 2.

The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.-3.

...They have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.-4.

I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man,... Isa. li. 12.

And forgettest the Lord thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth...13.

For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.-Isa. lxiii. 8.

In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.—9.

But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit...10. Thus saith the Lord, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?-Jer. ii. 5.

Neither said they, Where is the Lord that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness... Jer. ii. 6.

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.-13.

Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, when he led thee by the way ?-17.

...Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord of hosts.-19.

THE JUSTICE AND JUDGMENT OF GOD.

And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked ?—Gen. xviii. 23. That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right ?-25.

The Lord is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty...Num. xiv. 18.

For the Lord your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords...which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:-Deut. x. 17.

He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.-18.

He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he...Deut. xxxii. 4.

For the Lord shall judge his people...36.
