Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.Deut. xxii. 4.

THE BEAUTY OF HUMILITY

AND MEEKNESS.

Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes.-Gen. xviii. 27.

I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant... Gen. xxxii. 10.

Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.Num. xii. 3.

When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel ?— 1 Sam. xv. 17.

Then went king David in, and sat before the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto ?— 2 Sam. vii. 18.

And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord God; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord God?-19.

And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord God, knowest thy servant.-2 Sam. vii. 20.

For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.-21.

Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days...1 Kings xxi. 29.

Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.-4.

Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.—5.

I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.—Job xlii. 5.

Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.-6.

...He forgetteth not the cry of the humble.-Ps. ix. 12. Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.-Ps. x. 17.

The meek shall eat and be satisfied... Ps. xxii. 26. The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.—Ps. xxv. 9.

...I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.—Ps. xxxv. 13.

The meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.-Ps. xxxvii. 11. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. -Ps. li. 17.

...The earth feared, and was still,—Ps. lxxvi. 8.

When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth.-9.
