An Act to regulate the Importation of Silk Goods WHEREAS by an Act passed in the last Session of Silk. 6 G. 4. c. 105. Parliament, intituled An Act to repeal the several Laws relating to the Customs, the Laws by which the Importation of Wrought Silk is prohibited will, from and after the Fifth Day of July next, be repealed; and it is expedient to make Regulations for the Importation of such Goods when the same shall become lawful: And whereas by another Act passed in the last Session of Parliament, intituled An Act for granting Duties of Customs, certain rated 6 G. 4. c.111. Duties are charged upon the Importation of Raw and Thrown Silk according to the Weight thereof, and a Duty of Thirty Pounds per Centum is charged upon the Importation of Wrought Silks according to the Value thereof; and it is expedient that during the Pleasure of Parliament, the said rated Duties should be reduced, and also that the Amount of Duty intended to be raised upon the Importation of Wrought Silks should, as far as may be practicable, be ascertained and charged by a rated Duty according to the Weight thereof, instead of a Duty per Centum according to the Value: Be it therefore enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this Silk. From 5th July 1826 until 10th October 1828, the Duties herein mentioned shall be paid upon the Importation of Silks. present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, That from and after the Fifth Day of July next, and until the Tenth Day of October One thousand eight hundred and twenty-eight (1), in lieu and instead of the Duties imposed by the last-mentioned Act, on Silk Goods, and set forth in a Table thereunto annexed, denominated "Table of Duties of Customs Inwards," the several Duties set forth in Figures in the Table herein-after contained, and denominated "Table of Temporary Duties on Silk Goods," shall be raised, levied, collected and paid unto His Majesty, in like manner as if the same had been imposed by the said Act herein-before mentioned, and set forth in the said Table thereunto annexed; that is to say, TABLE OF TEMPORARY DUTIES ON SILK A TABLE of the DUTIES of CUSTOMS payable on SILK and (1) After which Time the Duties under 6 Geo. 4. c. 111. will revive. the lb. 100 (2) Including Waste or Floss. the Dozen Pairs (or if Half Stock- 4 0 0 300 1 10 0 1 1 0 0 16 O Manufactures of Silk, or of Silk and any other Material, not other- for every 100l. of the Value 30 0 0 all Piece Goods (1), whether other- for every 100l. of the Value 30 0 0 Turbans or Caps Hats or Bonnets Dresses or, and at the Option of the Officers for every 1001. of the Value 50 0 0 (1) As to "Piece Goods," and as to what must be sold at the Company's Sale, see 6 Geo. 4. c. 107. § 21. (2) The above rated Duties on the enumerated East India Piece Goods will not come into operation until after the 5th January 1827. (3) As to Passengers, see § 3. (4) This is necessary to prevent Evasion of Duty on valuable Articles, such |
