"Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience, and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen."-Collect for second Sunday in Advent.

suggested to the compiler, by the just observation of a clergyman, that in the distribution of tracts, there is great danger of superseding the reading of the Bible itself. It is intended, that these tracts shall consist chiefly of Scripture, headed by a collect or some other portion of the Church service, and followed occasionally by short historical notices, and by a prayer or other suitable extract, from the works of esteemed writers. It is hoped that by God's blessing the tendency of such tracts will be both to lead readers to search the Scriptures for themselves, and at the same time clearly to set before them the truly Scriptural character of their own Church and Prayer Book.

ADVENT.

COLLECTS FOR ADVENT.

ALMIGHTY God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious Majesty to judge both the quick and dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Amen.

O Lord, Jesu Christ, who at thy first coming didst send thy messenger to prepare thy way before thee; grant that the ministers and stewards of thy mysteries, may likewise so prepare and make ready thy way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, that at thy second coming to judge the world, we may be found an acceptable people in thy sight, who livest and reignest with the Father, and the Holy Spirit ever one God, world without end. Amen.

TE DEUM.

"We believe that thou shalt come: to be our Judge.

"We therefore pray thee, help thy servants: whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood."

ISAIAH LIX. 20.

The Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the Lord.

JEREMIAH XXXIII. 14.

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name, wherewith she shall be called, the Lord our Righteousness.

ROMANS XI. 26.

And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, there shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.
