they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life. - 42: 10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?- 44: 22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. -64: 2 Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: 3 Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: 4 That they may shoot in secret at the perfect suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. 69: 4 They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away. 7 Because for thy sake I have borne reproach: shame hath covered my face. 8 I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children. 9 For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. 10 When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach. 19 Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: mine adversaries are all before thee. 20 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. -79: 4 We are become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us. 89: 50 Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people; 51 Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed. — 102: 8 Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me.

Heb. 11:36 Others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheep-skins, and goat-skins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; 38 (Of whom the world was not worthy :) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

On their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. Rev. 15: 3 They sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb. [See 4, 337.]

513. God will abase persecutors.

Ps. 37: 12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. 13 The LORD shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming. 14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation. 15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.-47: 3 He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

Heb. 3: 6 Christ as a Son over his own house: whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence, and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. 12 Take heed, brethren, lest

there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end. 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 11 Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
